Reason behind josee disability

Does josee had her disability by birth or it is because of some accident?
I can't find exact reason anywhere.

it's been a long time since I've watched it so I don't remember but the first time I watched it, it was very good that i ended up watching it 5 times atleast. For the disability part, i really don't remembered but I think she got into an accident because her parents are dead right? maybe the three of them got into an accident and she was the only one survived.

I also saw it a few months ago and I really liked it, the love story was brilliant, your theory still having the most truth!

I think it was caused by an accident I don’t remember if it says in the movie or not and in my personal opinion, it doesn’t really matter

I remember that in the movie, her grandmother tells Tsuneo something like "she was born like this" after they meet for the first time and he walks with them to their house
