Its like giving a meh manga a god tier studio and they make a masterpiece adaptation
The storyline stays the same but the visuals become eye candy

I think it's because people who read obscure-ish manga are pickier than the average anime watcher. Like most anime with scores lower than like a 7.20 are bad but the same isn't really true for manga. Also the anime for this is a really good adaptation

The art in the manga is great and I’d argue one of the best in current WSJ, so I don’t really think the anime improves that aspect by tenfold or anything like say, Demon Slayer. Not to say the animation isn’t incredible cuz it is, but the art of the manga is as well. I think it’s just because not very many people have read it so the ratings for it are skewed, the lower ratings carry more weight. It’s been one of the least popular and most overlooked WSJ series over seas for years now.

Tho I guess to be fair, CloverWorks has created something impeccable, so maybe the animation is just carrying it this far. Maybe people can overlook whatever manga readers disliked in the anime because the adaptation is so good. Early pacing seemingly being a main complaint I’ve seen for the manga. Regardless, the manga has gone up .05 from what I remember, so I’m sure it’ll keep slowly climbing overtime

Read the reviews on the manga page. They were complaining about pacing for example and that can be fixed in an adaptation.

There are no negative reviews for the manga, they just complained about the pacing, and like other people mentioned, the pacing can be fixed in the anime. The hype over the art style is also helping the anime, the studio is working on this too perfectly

@OmarSawaby now now calling cloverwork a god tier studio after they messed up persona 5 adaptation and Promised Neverland S2, let's just call it a decently good studio with stunning animation

I second this, (though I still think calling elusive samurai an obscure manga when it's serializing in WSJ, by the author that did Assassination Classroom, is a tad bit of a stretch)

I do think that the reason it's not as widespread may be that it's a semi-historical manga with some fantasy elements sprinkled in (mostly the semi-historical, or just historical in general, leading to people not picking it up)

Also, just a reminder to OP but, ratings on this site is closer to a popularity contest. A very widespread, popular show among younger audience who hasn't seen as much other anime, will probably get it's rating bloated by generous ratings as opposed to, manga with less international readers where most readers will probably have read a variety of other manga and therefore will be less lenient with their ratings

The power of animation, my dude. Not that the manga is bad or anything. It's actually pretty good. Maybe the only problem, according to reviews of the manga, is the pacing which I haven't come across just yet.

Because the manga doesn't have that big of an appeal. Also the people that actually score manga on this site rate way hatsher than most normie anime watchers who just give everything a 9 or a 10.

@CheliosX

If its the turbo review, I don't even know what they're talking about and the manga currently is anything but rushed.

When it was released, there were people who thought the first chapter was 'rushed' (the first episode) and wanted to have the Hojo downfall to be a whole arc.

The same thing that happened with Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen, oh no their audience it’s brainwashed and they gave awfully high ratings to shit mangas. Well, let’s just say that it should be the same scenario of all the new shit shōnen series. Decent manga with decent drawings, cause for some reason the new generations of Jump mangaka cannot draw at all, made by an amazing studio with incredible direction that gives it a good adaptation. But at least I can sympathize with this series cause it tries to teach some history to the community of anime watchers, something y’all need

i've read like 70 chapters and stopped 2 years ago because i lost interest, i found it average so i gave it a 5, but my 5 is like other people 7.5, don't know if it gets better later, i'm watching the anime because i don't remember anything, i find the anime much better than the manga visually.

Probably because it's an above-average manga with an S-tier adaptation. The manga score is currently lower than it should be, yes, and the manga score seems to be slowly going up, but I'd be surprised if it went any higher than 6.87. If anything, the anime's score is a bit too high, and the only reason I can think why that is the case is that anime viewers are more easily entertained than manga readers. I personally think that Sengoku Youko S2 deserves more attention than this show.

It is easily the worst manga of Yuusei Matsui. His previous two manga were successful with respected fanbase. Both of them with 8+ rating.

Don't listen to the above users, who are saying the manga is low rating (6+) because it's unpopular lol. Obscure manga doesn't get that low rating, atleast 7+ is guaranteed if it is decent. The fact that it is by popular author but still low, you should get the sign because it's shit. Anime is carried by animation and mindless watchers who are giving it high rating.

@The_Keyman-1 You can make an argument that the reasons for this specific case are different but it is true most manga on here that are really obscure in the west do generally get really low ratings and especially for Jumps series pre-anime this is true, case and point

Its also super common to see a gigantic score difference between manga here and on actual mangasites like dex. People largely just dont use mal to catelogue their manga reads cause its so tedious and most readers have that built in to sites that people are actually reading it on so why bother coming here, again case and point for a lesser read manga, look at both the giant difference in score but also number of people logged to it

@AramHovhanued oh mal has always had some weird decisions with their manga database, I'm forever angry at them consolidating one shots from manga authors into long running series by the authors like they did with Gintama's authors one shots which only fucked the scores up and had people rating the series as finished years before it was over. That in addition to stuff like how it took them till only a few years ago to create a status of Hiatus rather than just saying a series was completed.

@JizzyHitler Yeah they also do the same with anime too. They don't want to add terminator the anime or scott pilgrim the anime even tho the studio\staff are japanese it's an anime adaptation of that series and sometimes tehy would at the start combine 2 seasons or 2 movies then after 6 months make it 1 season{any new ona} or different movie {AOT for example}

@AramHovhanued eyy alot of times they are actually right on that one, the Scott pilgrim "anime" basically commissioned science Saru and was largely directed and made by a bunch of people in texas. That one is more just the result of the annoying trend of calling things "the anime" like castlevania or the never ending debate people still push about Avatar cause it was animated by koreans even though almost all western animation is.

I thinks, they manipulate the score based animation, studio and songs like ToG and BuruAka Animation, it'similar case like Nigewaka

Talk about Nigewaka :
- poor comedy, repeative act like lamp "ON / OFF"
- storyline broken because bad timing comedy
- i don't like OP and ED for Nigewaka
- Overmilking Borotchi ( you know Borotchi release 2 anisongs in this season, Nigewaka and MakeIne + the worst of the milking Borotchi must carry Mossa NecryTalkie becahse worst popularity in anime KanoKano )
- provacateur punchline kinda meh
- STORY SPECIFIC ABOUT PEDOPHILE ADOPT kiddos

Anime rating 8 / 10, sound like bulshit
7,5 - 7,6 still make sense

@EtherLux I feel the same way. I think the anime looking so good is actually making to comedic scenes feel especially jarring as they clash with all the beautiful background art etc. In the manga they fit just fine.

I'd still score both an 8, but the manga version is a higher 8 lol.

@MangagnaM 3K is incredibly low, Ichinose family, a much less liked series that started and also got shit canned after elusive started airing has 3 times that then you look at stuff like kagurabachi which has into the 40K users, Elusive samurai just isnt that followed a series and its garnering stronger reception after the anime in the west, In japan it was always pretty well recieved I think it even won an award or two.

Yeah I'm struggling to keep watching it tbh, the animation is immaculate but the "comedy" is unbearably unfunny. The story seems like it'll be good but "good enough" is not enough to keep me going. It feels like I'm watching a mid 2000s or 2010s shounen with the character interactions and "jokes" but animated brilliantly with a modern art style.

It's interesting that Wistoria: Wand and Sword manga has even less people rating the manga (1.6k people rated it, compared to 3.2k people rating Elusive Samurai manga) and yet has a rating of 7.50, which is a higher rating than the Elusive Samurai manga, which is at 6.52.

@JizzyHitler well that would be the case if i had a tendency to drop, i mean i'm someone who waited 3 seasons for SAO to get somewhat decent (tbf the main reason i liked the later seasons is because of the animation lol). closest i can say i've seen something go from ''rough'' to amazing is gintama, but even that was already like a 7.5/10 at the start for me.

3 million copies when there's 16 volumes isn't that impressive. 188k per volume? Undead Unluck sold 1.8 million back when there were only 13 volumes (138k per volume). It's only slightly more popular than Undead Unluck. Meanwhile, Kaiju No.8 sold 15 million with only 13 volumes. ~1 million per volume. If anything is super popular right now, it's that.

And then there's One Piece, Black Clover, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man, if we want to talk about manga that are actually super popular right now.
