People seem to have hated this anime for I don't even know what reason.
Everything that happened were already defined by the premise, we did get what we asked for.

Some people are mad about the MC's nickname as if theirs didn't suck.
Some people are saying it's not original, as if it was a criteria to make good stuff (pro tip: there is no such thing as an original show nowadays, even demon slayer is not original per se).
Some people complain about the story line, which I don't understnad since everything is in the title "a playthrough of a certain dude's VRMMO Life". We get the VRMMO Life experience, we see Earth wanting to play very casually and kept being dragged to complicated events.
Some people even say the dude is acting childish? The MC is showing emotions when playing a game and try to stay sociable what do you call childish about that... no really? How come it's the most childish review that trash talk anime like this one by tagging them or their MC as "Childish".
Some people complain about the plot being predictable... which in an anime like this one is just being consistent. Don't pretend you understood at the second episode Earth would help and feed a baby red dragon. But once we see that, we can understand Dragons People exist and thus we will see them at some point. But no, you could not predict at first in the 9th episode that Earth would have to literally kill a dragon. When shows are well constructed, with a little bit of intelligence you can 'predict' some aspect of it with ease.
Some people complain about the charadesign... bruh. Do I need to say that overcomplicated charadesign are even worst and easier to mess up? Keeping it simple is best. And here it's simple but not 'dumb' or 'boring'. Every character has a unique design and we can feel how it could be different players going for different type of skin.

I'm kinda mad at all the gatekeeping around some anime like this one. I almost didn't watch it because of it, and I personally enjoyed it pretty well. It was chill, fun to watch, no complex plot just seeing a dude experiencing a game. I don't understand why you'd watch yet another "trash" isekai (hate this way of calling something "trash", let me enjoy watching whatever I want ffs) as if you don't alreday know you won't like it smh.

I sure hope there will be a season 2! There's a lot to discover about the world in the game (and even outside the game), about the game devs, we can discover a lot about other characters and I still want to see if Earth's relationship with some NPC will change or not.

I'm a bit disappointing he left the Fairy queen like that tho, I would have like a real closure at least. My best case scenario would have been for him to apologise and concede a favor to the queen, then leaving the kingdom. I think the dumbest move on his part is scealing his ring.

On this note, I hope more people would try anime like this one and I hope season 2 will be announced some day.

Overall I think this anime was mid. However, the final episode was awesome. The fact it pissed off a bunch of weebs because he was "mean" to their waifu was the icing on the cake.
Earth acted in a perfectly valid manner. He's been polite. He's set boundaries. They've been consistently ignored. This situation is all too familiar for those of us who bend over backwards for people. And just like in real life, the moment you cease being the pushover everyone expects you to be and stand up for youself, you're suddenly the villain or acting unstable. F' That. If you're sitting here thinking "well he didn't have to be rude", chances are you're used to taking advantage of people like Earth.

The fact that, in the end, Queens actions that set him off were "coerced" really doesn't matter. Had they not thrown that last little tidbit in, her actions would have been completely in line with her personality and actions up to that point. When it happened, you thought "of course she did", not "what?!". She's a victim of being the "boy who cried wolf". Had she not been a complete tool up to that point, she'd get the benefit of the doubt. Sucks for her, but it is what it is and Earth isn't some villain because of that.

But these comment sections are obviously full of people who are essentially real life NPCs who likely have never experienced a woman's attention and are incapable (unwilling) to discern between genuine affection and toxicity. Sure Queen is cute, but her entire personality is trash. The "I'm cute so I can do anything I like and people should find it endearing" trope in anime is gross.
Once again, Kudos Earth.
@maraviax thank you I was wondering if I was the only one who thought something like that! Earth reaction was more than normal, and certainly not childish as some people said. Maybe not wise, as he could and should have listen to her before but it was certainly not an overreaction. Most people complaing probably act 100 times worse IRL and daily.

That said, I still think Earth shouldn't have sealed the ring's power. You gotta use what can be useful.
And I would have liked that before he went away, they really get along together again. If Queen made clear she understood her mistakes and won't cross the boundaries Earth set, I think he could have done a nice gesture before leaving town. Unfortunately it did not happen. But I guess it's just me liking to see good relationship between people. What happen is fine.

Never expected this, the anime was pretty fine until the last episode, where the MC revealed his stupidity, and the fact he has a mind of a 10 year old brat, full of himself. Never expected to end as a garbage.

Reading through some of the comments, I can't help but feel just as attacked as Earth here man. I feel that people have been judging the dude before even trying to understand him.

Personally, I liked the anime (even though it was a classic rushed 12 episoder) because I feel I can relate to him >.<

I can't tell you how many games I've played over the years where I only log in for a few minutes once every couple of days or even months outta the year. Hell...there are even games I log into once every couple of years just to check in with old buddies! I can't imagine how pissed I'd be if after setting time to log in, I'm bombarded with ish like that. You wouldn't even have time to do what you originally logged in for after sorting through everything.

People who hate or don't like this episode and maybe even anime are probably people who wanna log into a game on a daily basis, lead a party of a couple hundred people through quests galore and bring home those gold coins to mama. But me, I can't wait to log in after a long day, week, month or even couple of years of dealing with rl ish and just...chill.

Good for you Earth. If you show yourself for a second season, I'll be right here to watch ya bud. May even go check out the manga or ln until then.

Lowkey, of course.

It was an okay series. But my dislike started when he started to be cruel and hit the queen. How can he treat her like that. Even if she's annoying she's a sweet Queen and even punish those who's trying to take advantage of Earth.

Again, the series was decent but the MC grew unlikeable.

Don't think I'll be watching another season if it comes out.

I really like the show but idk that ending with the queen ruined it for me. would have been better if he realized that being with friends would be more fun than being a loner.

It would've been "fine" but the MC made it unbearable to enjoy, just awful and it just builds up every episode is worst than the previous one

This was an enjoyable, chill little mmo show, and htough it sometimes had some skills or rules that didnt make sense at all, like the two different types of thief skills, which should have all fit under the same abilities, its all good lol. The showclearly wasnt meant to be taken too seriously, and it didnt bother showing off more than just the game and its antics most of the time. Its what has become commonplace in recent memory as "seasonal filler" shows>
i ALMOST GAVE this a higher rating, just because of the cute baby dragon though. SO ADORBS, it almost swayed me for a moment...im getting old lmao I wanted more from this show, but also really wanted more episodes...PRobably wont get a 2nd season, but we shall see. 6.5/10 would watch again.^<^

Was Pikasha running with the letter supposed to tease a 2nd season? Good luck with that.

I hoped they would have dove more into the secret AI training of the shady game devs...they teased a grander plan brewing in the background for the AI fairies and dragons, but didn't pay it off. I'm curious which character the female game dev/executive played as...Nora, perhaps?

It was just like watching a let's play of a streamer, except all they did was boring hunt/farm for resources, so it ended up being somewhere in between not quite dumpster fire and marginally mediocre. As far as I remember from the manga, it followed it pretty much 1-to-1, and probably why I dropped it years ago. At the very least, I didn't hate it, I just didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. Overall, it wasn't the worst thing I've watched. It was better than Dekisoko that I watched at the same time as this; a series so bad that I couldn't stomach watching past episode 6, to the point that I hated it so much that a part of me wished I owned the manga, just so I could burn the book to get something out of it, because I can never get back the time I wasted watching that shitshow. VRMMO Old Man series on the other hand, was okay enough to finish to the end to fuel my procrastination tendencies.

The series is rather mid. One of the redeeming qualities is "Sandbox mode". In the game you are able to craft and cook, using legitimate knowledge within a game. The players can interact with complicated npc's and so forth. There are supposedly endless possibilities to explore which the players can affect.

The 12th episode ruins a lot of this. Mind you, I have not read the manga or anything, so I am unsure of things beyond the anime. Earth receives a bow which will most likely be the weapon he will eventually start using, instead of something crafted. Earth is damaging a very rare relationship with perhaps the most important npc which also happens to be a super AI Queenie. Earth will most likely reconcile with her, however, the incident will remain as a scar on their history, if not the creator of the show/manga decides to ignore that aspect, which then represents their inability to create a story which has causality, showing their inept creativity and storytelling.

Earth is an absolute asshole. Earth supposedly made his character bland as to not stand out or attract attention, this was motivated by the fact that he has very little time to play, HOWEVER, this means that he already had the mindset that he was going to cause a lot of attention or at least deluding himself that people would want to interact with him. Later he ends up being interacted with anyway, and he fully welcomes it, with no resistance, which is extremely contradictory as to his supposed intentions. Earth also does many things that attract attention, of which he intentionally decides to do, such as the cooking, it could have been very easy to refuse, especially since "he doesn't want any attention" he could have also made the food very poorly aka weaponizing incompetence as to make them go away, which he doesn't do, which is contradictory. Earth only seems to do things with other people when it suits him, such as the power rangers, he could have rejected the invitation, yet he decides to go with them anyway, yet when Zwei and the gang asks him to join their guild, so that they can ask for help, he refuses, literally admitting "I want to be able to do what I want to" as in, not needing to help others, even though they have been helping him.
Queenie is very kind and cheerful, she also seems to like Earth, Earth constantly pushes her away, in addition feeling joy when she distance herself from him, which must be sad for her. Earths reaction to the warrant is disgusting, the fact that he has been constantly around her and knows what type of person she is, the fact that she has shown at multiple occasions that she wants to respect his "privacy" like when she had ordered people to treat him normally, he should have known that there was a proper reason. The fact that he "got angry" (ohhh~ scary~) when he saw the posters and walked all the way to the castle (or ran however long that takes) without calming down even a little bit or actually trying to think about it is insane, not to mention he doesn't even allow her to talk is ridiculous. Damn right he is childish, not even here, but all the time. The fact that he tells her to remove the ring is really stupid, everyone on the game is already aware that he has had it and that he has had special interactions, then he immediately afterwards uses them to fight the dragon. It is also the cherry on top when it comes to contradictions that he "seals" the ring because "No SpEcIaL PrIvILiGeS~" yet the dragon armor and literary spirit bow is fine, he replaced an items which gives him some abilities but more importantly serves as communication to Queenie, for fucking armor and a weapon.

There is probably a lot better ways to describe/write/formulate this comment, especially if I took the time for it, but I think I got the main message across if not only my opinion. There are many ways to make protagonists, however I feel like my favorite type of protagonist is the ones where you can relate to them somehow, if it be the interest they have, background, ideals etcetera. I cannot relate to Earth. I feel ashamed when I contradict myself, I don't lash out on people close to me, because I am the one who actually gets hurt from it due to regret, I don't choose things in order to avoid attention (especially if I believe them to make a disadvantage for me) and I cannot understand the appeal to reject benefits. Benefits and rewards are never wrong, if it doesn't hurt someone else and if you do not grow arrogant and or greedy, the whole main protagonist "I don't want to get much attention" is so fucking edgy/cringeworthy, its like in dnd when the rouge is at the corner of the tavern concept they "don't want attention". The fact that he worries so much about the whole attention thing really just displays his insecurity for how people perceive him, if it really is that much of a problem for him, I find it difficult to believe that he'd be playing that game as much as he has.

This comment has been very hastily written and I'm sure that there isn't a very clear "red thread" to follow and I apologize, this is ultimately me ranting. The last episode was very annoying and it really left a bitter flavor for the whole show, I don't usually comment on these things (this is my first ever comment on a discussion on MAL) but it really lifted a weight off my chest reading the other comments here, so I thought I should add mine, in case someone wanted to work off, of the points I brought up and or correct me (for example the manga readers, god bless ya).

My rating on this anime is honestly 4/10 and that only because I liked some characters such as Queenie and the concept I brought up at the beginning of my rant, otherwise it'd be 2/10.

Its looks promising for a second S.. Big hope for it..

Looks boring at first, bcz this anime always show the dev of this male char..
But then it getting more n more interesting, especially when it reach "fairy / pet" patch update..

I like the boy attitude, which is not greedy n low profile, want a peace life..

Overall : 8/10 from me..
