I know Grendizer is earlier, but this makes me feel like Back Arrow to me for a bit. Except main guy who is from foreign space and got amnesia remembered in one ep. Miyu-Miyu and Band-Maid also reminds me of another anime. |

Ok I have very mixed feelings about it. First of all, this looks like some sort of remake/reboot of "UFO Robo Grendizer", but in the Middle East (I watched the first ep of the old show to compare, but im not sure)? Im really not liking it, because the anime is funded in some % by Manga Productions (a Saudi Arabian company) at it looks to me like they payed to have the setting be in ME. While it might not turn out bad, im against this type of stuf, because to me it screems like the writers don't have the freedom in writing what they want. I know it's common to have higher ups make certain decisions about projects, but this is a bit too obvious that they paid for the setting and it does not look good in my opinion. Secondly and more importantly, the episode was really weirdly paced. At the beginning, I felt like we missed at least 10 minutes of build up material (like how the characters got to know each other so "well") and that just made me not care about the rest of the episode. It was all over the place for me. The animation was average Overall 2.5/5 from me for this beginning |

@sasahara_n This anime project is funded by Saudi Arabia so I guess they told the anime studio to include their country in the anime lol |

The story was rushed! Humiliating Mazinger Z like this was so unacceptable! I guess Koji did well with his TFO more than his Mazinger! Duke's personality was so weird! I don't want to compare him with the classic Duke but The new Duke was so Childish and gave me a "Gundam Seed character vibe" it's cool to see our heroes in Saudia Arabia and all the activities they've done but many things don't make any sense! I'm not sure if I am going to continue watching the series or drop it |

holy moly where do I even begin, when I was a child the first anime I ever recall watching was the original grendizer (UFO robot Goldrake here where I live) so I'm really attached to this series and it's characters and boy oh boy the first episode did not give me a good first impression. let's start from the beginning, the anime opens with Duke Fleed entering the earth's atmosphere and falling down in the desert, he gets out and instantly loses his senses and he gets rescued by Sayaka and koji kabuto on Mazinga Z, we cut to a farm and we find out that igs kojis farm and here we discover that Duke has amnesia and he can't remember anything. After this we are at a motorcycle race and while taking part in it duke starts to remember about his past after seeing an incident where 2 motorcycles got damaged badly (💀💀💀) after this the allarm goes on and koji has To go take Mazinga to defeat an enemy. After Duke sees Mazinga he gets back his memories and now remember everything. He wakes up in the hospital thanks sayaka and rushes to the place where he crashed at the beginning, koji stops him from taking Grendizer and flying into the sun and then runs to a nearby city because Vega troops are attacking it, he defeats Girugiru (the first Vega robot that Goldrake fights in the First episode of the original series) and after defeating it Mazinga gets jumped by Gorugoru and gingin. Aftere watching Mazinga getting absolutely demolished Duke calls out of the sand Goldrake and in 2 second he destroys both vega robots.💀💀💀 my issues with this anime are a lot from the start but I'll divide them in point: - since duke is found by sayaka this means that there won't be doctor procton but they might introduce him later even though it won't have the same relationship with Duke so im pretty sure we won't see him. - since the farm they show us is kojis farm this means no rigel(Danbei), no venusia(Hikaru Makiba) and no mizar(Goro Makiba), not a great start since those characters are important to the old viewer, but aight let's see what they can cook. - the amnesia is pointless, you could cut it out from the first episode and it won't change a single thing - animation goes from mediocre to average and since it's the first episode you would want to get people hyped about it so you'd spend a bit more to give some impressive animation to catch the attention of people but they don't even try😭 - I didn't like how they insta killed 3 iconic enemies from the original series like that, like really, you had them fight for half an episode and here 30 seconds at best, give some respect to the goats. In conclusion this anime isn't up to a great start, the OG fans like me are not really enthusiastic about these changes and as a stand alone anime the first episode was mediocre and the story is a big question mark, to actually rate it I will wait till the series end. my final grade is a solid 5/10. I hope that it will increase by the end of it. P.S. English isn't my first language so if I'm sorry if I made some mistakes🙏 |

animation is somewhat decent, but some scene feels kinda odd like when they went to ride a bike in a tournament or something.. I trust the director since I've watched his last work and liked it so maybe some odd scene might be from the *big middle east investor* who request em to put it in? idk mate just guessing but the later half it's pretty decent. maybe I'm too harsh on this since I went into this expect something on the same level as New Getter Robo or Mazinger Z (2009) since they got this much cash from saudi to make the show |

@SuperUnoCards it's a remake so yeah you can, but if you want I suggest you go watch Mazinger Z (2009) or the original one to get familiar with the character since they share the same cast and I would count it as a prequel personally. |

Sayaka has purple hair in this? That's certainly a choice to make. Probably for the best to consider this show entirely separate from any of the other Mazinger series stuff. Connecting this to something like Infinity would be dizzying. |

My central thought is insofar as there's any issues it's mostly with the pacing in this episode. But I'm willing to let them cook for a few episodes. Some of the Saudi Arabia stuff was a bit cringe, but I do like the idea of Kouji being in the Middle East due to having become some sort of globe-trotting Batman or James Bond type. The similarities between him and various superheroes or general wealthy gadget-oriented adventurers are always there in most Mazinger iterations, but aren't explored enough. I don't think any take has really gone that direction with Kouji before, and it can fit Mazinger's general vibe. I do hope we end up back in Japan though— the constant cuts back to the Photon Energy Lab made it seem like we will end up there as usual. I'm hoping the plans for the Mazinger itself are something like what happened in the original Great Mazinger— trounced early to hype up the danger of the new villains so it can come back better later. I'm not so offended they made the Mazinger a jobber to hype up the villains so much as actually kind of relieved they didn't find some stupid way to get Tetsuya to show up and fulfill that role. Tetsuya and the Great Mazinger have managed to get clowned on by the villains weirdly often in Mazinger anime. He managed to fulfill that role in Mazinkaiser, Mazinkaiser vs. the Great General of Darkness, Shin Mazinger (somehow, despite seeming to not belong in that show and Great not being around), and Mazinger Z: Infinity. Dude needs a break. |

Gosh that was painful to watch. Very cheap visually, way too fast paced... No room for build-up on anything. They tried sooo much to squeeze everything during the 1st EP that was really cringe. That "come back" at the end and the first apparition of Grendizer was atrocious, the classic "transfer" is glanced over, many stuff that made the original memorable is definitely not here. And we now have 4 female characters in the cast, where we had like 2 in the original. (I don't mind, but that makes me wonder "why" in the first place) |

@Fortress_Maximus The Pilder in the Mazinger Manga was white. The only other notable Mazinger with a white pilder was Mazinkaiser's version. As for the subs, probably a nod to OG Mazinger's infamous Crabstick Subs as well as Mazinkaiser doing the same thing. |

@RobertBobert No clue as Shin Mazinger is the only previous Mazinger work I have seen. My first impression is they applied The Worf Effect to Kouji/Mazinger Z with him and his super robot being Earth's main heroes, able to hold his own against the weaker Vega UFOs only to be defeated to show how strong Vega is and that only Duke's Grendizer can take them on as an equal. He is Duke Fleed's foil. This looks to be story about Duke atoning for what he did before crashing on Earth. |

@Fortress_Maximus Mazinger got it's ass kicked in most adaptations, usually at the end. Mazinkaiser is the other exception were Mazinger is defeated in the first episode. In the OG Mazinger story, Mazinger is enhanced with current, up to date tech and fights alongside the newcomer, in Mazinger it's Great Mazinger, and it's likely it'll be enhanced by Vega tech later. Either it's repaired with Vega tech, isrebuilt as Mazinkaiser or outright replaced by Kaiser. There is lore to that, the Mazinkaiser Infinity backstory is that it was a Mazinger made via the fusion of Photon and Vega tech. |

It's a remake with Maz. Excellent. Kouji will still end up being a sidekick (which will most likely get the ire of avid Mazinger Z fans), but at least he isn't using that TFO or spazer. Not yet, anyway. I hope Maz sticks around throughout the series. :) |
