The whole sex theme wasn’t great tbh, didn’t like both how they handled it and that it was there at all, but I guess it’s character development? Eh, let it be… But yea, it was royally painful to watch

Eps like this in the show makes you really care about Rudeus. With his trauma from his past life to his new trauma from Eris leaving him in the last season finale. Plus his blossoming relationship with Soldat becoming like an elder brother to him. Moments like these humanize the characters and remind the viewers that this anime does character development quite well.

I don't know what to think about this episode... I mean, I don't mind sex as theme of the episode but...

On one hand, there was good tension and chemistry between Sara and Rudeus (even though she is just imitation of Eris for reasons).
On the other hand, that impotence problem felt like some overused plot-device that only served as cock-blocked (literally).
Honestly, it would be a lot better if they just did it and then he just felt nothing towards her. Or at least they should allow him to do this with the prostitute.
It's not like the youngster like him would be able to resist her experience anyway, no matter what trauma was he going through at that point.
Heck, it would be even better if he imagined Eris' face during the act.

Part of me enjoyed his struggles but another part of me hates the fact that Sara's arc was literally dropped on spot in favor of going to another city.

Had a lot of replies to other people on this one:

Yeah they are both at fault really neither communicated well at all and both misunderstood the other person majorly twice.

She misunderstood his "situation" (and assumed he must hate her)
He misunderstood her indirect communication and anger and took them literally (and assumed she must hate him)
She misunderstood his rant of anger and sadness as him revealing his superficial nature in a moment of drunk honesty (and that confirmed her assumption of him hating her)
He misunderstood her dumping him as a conformation that she never liked him at all (and his assumption about her hating him is confirmed to the point where he wants to unalive himself in his drunk state.)

Basically yes, it was several misunderstandings on both sides, they both actually liked each other but kept reading the other person as if they hated them and so ended up both thinking the other person hated them.

"He's not aroused he must dislike me"
"She's angry cause I'm not aroused and communicates indirectly about it which he doesn't pick up on so he takes it literally "it's not like I like you or anything it's obligation" (that's a lie/beating around the bush/Tsundere BS) but he doesn't see through that and assumes she must hate him now.
"He's ranting drunk about his true feelings and admitting everything, I knew he was superficial and didn't like me but I didn't want to believe it. (even though he was actually saying BS because he was drunk out of sadness and anger but she sees it the opposite way, she doesn't even see his emotions just like he didn't really see hers)
"She just dumped me and says she hates me, I knew she hated me, I want to unalive"

Like the amount of miscommunication or lack of communication is quite frustrating here, because if they actually understood each other there would literally be 0 problems but I guess that's good writing

I mean to be fair he could have at least tried you know... "foreplay" I get that it's supposed to be a psychological problem but it's a little unrealistic, I'm sure you can have an initial mental block but you can defenitly bypass that like a "reflex" if you are physically still perfectly healthy. Fear can very much block nearly any bodily function and even completely paralyze you to the point where you literally can't move even if you try to and want to, but that's short term and acute fear this is more "anxiety" in which case you're thinking too much, I can guarantee it works fine in his sleep there's no way it wouldn't unless you actually have a physical problem, so really it would be as simple as less mind more instinct, reflex and less trying "do or do not there is no try" lmao As for the part where he was drunk, I feel like he could have just stopped him before he said so much BS, like just cover his mouth and turn him around, well I guess at least he saved him from un-alive-ing himself but still that situation just went from, problematic to bad to pretty much unrecoverable through nothing but misunderstandings, She got insulted he couldn't do it> He got insulted because of the way she outed the fact that she felt insulted>Drinks too much>says shit he doesn't really mean cuz he's drunk> She sees it as him doubling down and revealing his true opinion about her and so now she hates him because she thinks he's so superficial and isn't attracted to her whatsoever> He tries to unalive himself. Like damn I know it's good writing but that's a frustrating amount of miscommunication and misunderstanding.

This episode made me scream so many times. Like, I am a woman and I am suffering like a man throughout this entire episode. Like the dude doesn't get a break. Erectile dysfunction at such crucial moment? I condemn rudeus for like a list of sht but I oddly understood the pain. Someone save this boy. Why am I still watching such problematic show? Ergh.... It would have been better if some stuff weren't passed as if it's nothing or a joke. But got to say that they did write the story good. Ergh...

Alright, this is just utterly stupid now. The writing is bad. It relies on people acting like idiots and not able to deal with emotions in any mature manner. Rudeus getting ED from emotional insecurity is something, but it's handled comically. Sol and the prostitute being characters with a bit of depth is quite nice. Rudeus randomly ranting things he doesn't mean, and Sara just coincidentally being there, is asinine anime writing. The entire ending is contrived & sour, just to thrust Rudeus' character a certain direction (both emotionally & physically). Instead of this stupidity, what if Rudeus, I don't know, had a heart to heart with Sara where he explains it? There are two ways Mushoku Tensei should've proceeded with this:

When Rudeus takes Sara to bed, have him realise Eris still has his heart. He's too emotionally insecure for this, despite being attracted to Sara. This would spare the plot of being about solving erectile dysfunction.
After visiting the brothel, Sol tells Rudeus to confess everything to Sara. They share a heartfelt moment where Sara realises she isn't the problem.

Both of the above would've made Sara feel like much more of a character than a plot device. She would've realised Rudeus isn't just her saviour, but a man with his own problems. It would've added a degree of nuance & bittersweetness to the whole affair. If Sara is written out of the story, it could've been amicable. If she stays, it would've been the start of a genuine friendship between the two, with Rudeus confiding something personal, and Sara learning to appreciate Rudeus for both his strengths & weaknesses. Who knows? Maybe she grows to truly love him then.

Also, must say, Rudeus not mentioning his goal of finding his mother at all this episode, so Mushoku Tensei can focus on a tale about erectile dysfunctional, does not exactly entice one to watch more episodes. This entire aftermath with Eris is predicated on something forced, and then handled poorly. Giving Rudeus a love interest not long after Eris had potential. This was not it.

I miss when the writing was good other than Rudeus' perversions coming out-of-left-field and not handled well, because it was easy to admire Mushoku Tensei as something well-written while spontaneously stupid. Now it's just poorly written. The idea behind this story arc was Rudeus being truly alone for the first time, dealing with the heartache of being away from everyone he's known. He finds new companions that teach him the world keeps spinning. The idea is there, but this story feels like a rough draft of what should have been. All the more baffling is that this arc was a Light Novel exclusive. It was designed to flesh out a period not covered in the Web Novel, and failed.

Sara takes Rudeus for a date. She wanted to repay him with her body, but that’s when he realised that he’s got erectile dysfunction. After effects of Eris abandoning him.

Soldat tries helping Rudeus but nothing works. Out of frustration, Rudeus vents out and that breaks his relationship with Counter Arrow. Rudeus joins Soldat in the next mission.
