Can someone explain?

I know this is probably a dumb question, but I just started watching and I'm confused about one thing. In episode 1 they said in order to escape they need to make it to floor 100 beating all the bosses in every floor. I took that as someone needing to beat the boss of the previous floor before they can even access the next, but I see them just jumping between floors so can they just go to any floor they want and they can just defeat the bosses whenever?

yh, they beat the bosses of those floors to move up. The show just off screened it to save time, I guess?

The light novel was made for a contest so there is a lot of floors that were skipped to finish the story which was also reflected in the anime. However the SAO progressive movie series that has started is meant to fill in those gaps so if you haven’t already and want to know what happens in between episodes/floor jumps, definitely check those out.

they can shift between the floors in which the bosses have already been defeated...and the reason for not showing all boss defeats is timeskip

The anime and light novel shows them beating the first boss, and then they make a time skip to where they have beaten multiple floor bosses.

The way that they travel between floors, is that as soon as the boss of a floor is beaten, can you go and open the teleport gate on the new floor. This unlocks it for all players in the whole game. There is a main teleport gate on all floors, that connects the different floors, but it is also possible to teleport from city to city on the same floor. If there is any details that is unclear feel free to ask.

yea they hv to beat the floor boss in order to process further, but they didn't show it for every time
I still remember , they hv this wall kinda thing where the names of the party members were written whosoever best the boss ,in most of them kirito was there
they will show it later

They have to bear every boss in order to go to the next floor. There’s a whole manga series covering the floors floor by floor. And two movies for the In betweens of the show. Make sure you watch the two movies after season1

The original light novel actually started from the episode where kirito killls that bunny and Asuna cooks it. But since then they made light novels covering almost every floor ( this light novel series is still on going)

Just when they beat that Boss from that Floor. like if they beat all bosses from 1-54 they are free to move between and live these floors. but yeah a lot get cut wat i also was a little bit sad about.

In the sao progressive light novels it’s shown that they were exploring and clearing most of the floors pretty much within 1-2 weeks. This process is actually shown in that series of light novels. In main series you more or less get a clifnotes version of everything

In the first arc they skip a lot related to the expirience of the whole arc and make it more romance focused. They have a few boss fights here and thare but it doesn't have a big impact, if you wanna see a lot more of the first few floors I recommend the progressive movies they do a lot better pacing and adaptation not to mention the animation aswell than the first part of main series,however the progressive is half cannon and not finished as of the current time of writing. In the first place they skipped the floors bc of production issues i guess.

The way it goes is. In order to go up the floors you need to beat the boss of the previous floor. Once it’s beat you can go through any of the floors with bosses beat. The thing is implied in the anime is the same however they don’t show scenes of every boss fight or level up/going up a floor. The reason of this remains unknown ✨✨
