So I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has been concerned at the movie potentially skipping a lot of the content in not just this movie but the next as well. For the ppl that did watch it and have read the manga, does the movie skip a lot of content? As someone who is anime only for this series and has been avoiding the manga for soo long even with a few spoilers here and there, since the movie announcement I have been debating just dropping the anime all together and just finishing the manga. Does the movie do the arc justice, or did you find it rushed and skipped a lot of parts in the arc even if enjoyable? Thanks for any help you can provide.

SPOILER FREE PLEASE AND THANK YOU!! :)

I recommend both, I feel like the movie was really good too, I don't think it felt rushed somehow, the first movie was only about 1 specific arc and most likely the movie part 2 will only focus on "that" arc so, I rather live with an incomplete but faithful adaptation than a shitty adaptation, but yeah I recommend both, haikyuu as a manga and adaptation are just really good.

i havent personally read it, and i actually only watched a couple of seasons, but i must say you cant go wrong with the anime. The soundtrack is great, amazing animation. One of the few anime ive watched which has truly delivered in all departments. it may not stand out to me as one of the best anime ive watched, but it does everything very well that its hard to critique it. I found the 10ep ova arc to be especially amazing

I am coping that after the 2nd movie there will be a final season or even a final film to finish the adaptation.
Because what's the point in putting the anime back on the table if it's not to get to the end?

@StewieStew93 ya I'm hoping the 2nd film isn't EVERYTHING after this 1st film of the final 2 since I'm aware there's quite a bit left. I've just been coping hard tbh lol. Since we have zero info on what the 2nd film will cover. I hope they've been hearing the ppl but it's extremely unlikely. I think I'll end up reading this movies arc begrudgingly and then watching it smh

@rahmed365 ya I've been coping so hard since the announcement. But from my understanding, it's just these two films. I just don't see how they can do it all. I'm coping hard like with Demon Slayer they'll readapt into another season but with a 2nd film adaptation its unlikely. And we still have no info on what that'll cover. If it truly is everything it'll be just such a huge botch, probably the biggest disappointment anime wise I'd ever feel considering it's not that the manga botched it, it's specifically the anime itself that's deciding these major cuts and changes. Other animes did it in the past but that was because of the feel the need to stay weekly the manga being behind, so they did there own thing, but this is different. Sigh. Let's wait and see but idk knowing how Japan does things definitely not hopeful at all 😅

I found the movie glossed over and cut out a lot of content, especially in the first half. I recommend reading the manga, even if it's just the nekoma match (Nekoma match starts at chapter 293 btw).

i haven't watched the movie yet, but based on purely the chapter count this movie covers, it won't be enough runtime to get even the entire Nekoma play.

So I'd say watch the movie if you want because I assume it'll be really well done aside from cut content, but then go back and read the manga from the end of S4

I watched the movie today, and yes, I'm a manga reader. The movie was seriously great, i really loved it, I'm a person who doesn't screams much during hype scenes in a movie and that wasn't the case here, my throat was gone. it's easily a 9/10, the OST was great, animation was very great. The only thing which i really hated was the amount of content in the movie, compared to the matches in TV series this was very low. The match with Nekoma is supposed to be some kind of an endless rally but the movie ended under 2 hours. I was even able to notice that a few scenes were skipped from the manga. Nevertheless It's really a great movie, it still delivered the what was needed, as an anime watched I don't think anyone will feel dissatisfied.

I started as an anime-only person since I wanted to see all the volleyball in action through the animation. However after knowing the movie is coming out, I finally decided to read where it left off at the end of season 4. Today was the day I went to watch it in theatres and walked out of the movie feeling a little disappointed. Honestly, was not worth all the anticipation I had expected.. I think there’s a review here about how the movie did not do justice and it was a sprinkle of volleyball here and there which i totally agree. Some positive aspects i can say is some funny moments and a few great character dynamic scenes but that was really it. I know ppl out here reading this might disagree but imo it just wasn’t suspenseful enough like it was watching the other seasons. I loved haikyuu bc of the suspense; the character development leading to their volleyball game, showing what they have learnt. Unfortunately, this movie did not give me that. Overall, it’s still a good movie but does it live to the standard as the prequels of this series? Sadly no :(

i’m a manga reader and i’d say watch the movie first and then read the manga. its a solid movie and very enjoyable, even though it did cut stuff. so watch the movie first so then you won’t be comparing it to the manga, but definitely read the manga at some point bc its freaking amazing!!! i advocate reading the manga for the entire series, especially the inarizaki and nekoma matches.
