I thought alpha and beta were basically just someone who’s dominant and someone who’s submissive but apparently you can be born an alpha?? I’ve read and watched bl quite a bit but I just don’t understand this, can someone explain?

I recommend reading omegaverse manga for a better understanding, but here’s some info for you. It’s usually at the start of a manga for new readers :)
Hope that helps. I’ll be happy to answer any other questions you have

These images include the most popular and widely used specifications for omegaverse, but it's good to note that these are not set rules and it depends on the author for some of this things to apply to an omegaverse story.

I've read my fair share of omegaverse Mangas and I've noticed that in some stories an omega being bitten by an alpha means that omega practically belongs to the alpha and won't go into heat anymore, that's not something that applies to this anime even when I've read it many times.

But in conclusion, those images share the very basics of the omegaverse world and I think OP is confusing it with S/M universe which has an entirely different set of rules.

It's interesting, because as I understand it A/B/O as a genre originated in western fandom (Supernatural specifically, I believe?), but then some of the fundamental premises seem to have changed when it moved into doujinshi and then mainstream manga.

To me the biggest change (and one I'm still wrapping my head around tbh) is the social stratification, specifically to the level of bloodlines. I don't think I've heard much about consistent distribution of different types as part of the premise of English-language A/B/O. In most of the stories I've heard about, it's much more of an individual trait (and stigma), similar to gender/sexual dimorphism, and alphas pairing with omegas is the norm, not the exception. Betas then partner with betas, and any combination outside of those is seen (to some extent) as suspect. There's still stratification and societal bias as major themes, but also necessarily a lot of intermixing. (I'm not familiar with S/M manga either; is that more similar to this?)

Regardless, I feel like the structure of omegaverse (rather than A/B/O) shifts the focus of the associated societal commentary, which is one of the angles this show seems to be working hard to drive home.
