Hey,

so I've been KINDA liking this anime since episode 1, but it really does three things that make it hard to really enjoy:

- not explaining anything or way too little. You just have to believe that everything (will) make sense.
- characters that for the most part don't care about each other. Yeah, we finally reached the point where there seems to be some care, but when this anime started, Touko was treated like crap and even other character didn't care much for each other.
- artsy animation style

I'm just stating this observation of mine, obviously if you love this anime you'll disagree. But I really have to force myself forward watching this, but I keep doing it because I know that there's a good anime beneath the things I dislike. I just think this could have been handled much better.
If you haven't watched "Fantastic Children", don't talk about "best anime". Thank you.

I feel like they explained quite enough for you to know the world, Idk what you mean way too little, just explaining everything also isn't always good, kinda ruins the mystery part of a story like this

I think characters care about each other a lot, of course strangers won't care about others as much but they still do, and well touko's "family" treating her like crap is just how it is in a lot of family it's nothing really new

Well, it's a low budget show so there is nothing to be done about the animation/artstyle, but I feel like it compliments the story well and if this had the usual anime artstyle, it might have not fit as much, the stills however still kinda feel weird out of nowhere

I agree with this.
I'm watching it because the mystery part is really well done and the character interactions are interesting.
Personally I like the unique art style.

@ktg Make no mistake, as I said, I like this anime. But I think it really requires the viewer to WANT to watch it. Unlike most anime that are rather easy to approach.

That's something I don't understand. You need to want to watch every show, because if you don't want to, you drop it. That's how it works.
Yes, this show is not for kids in kindergarten. If you watch this, you need to think and understand what's going on without the characters explaining it to you.

Obviously not every show is about flashy fights.

@ktg Sigh, you don't want to understand my point, huh? Compare this to anime like SAO or One Piece or Death Note. The latter 3 are super easy to get into. Hikari, instead, is not easy to get into at all imo. It does the things I mentioned that will put off most mainstream anime-fans, hence why this forum is so quiet.

Lol, no, it's not because of that. It's because the other shows that you mentioned are shounen shows.
It was my original point. In this case, you need to think about it and people in the west are not used to that. They like watching shows brainlessly without thinking. Great examples are movies like Avatar or Transformers, where everything is about the CGI.

Watch Godzilla Singular Point. They explain a lot of things and the animation is really good, but even with the explanations it is a hard to understand show, therefore its score is low.
It has nothing to do with anything you said.

Just watched episode 16.

Man, this anime has such shit art and animation :/

Is it known whether the studio just sucks or is it because a tiny budget?

It's so sad. This could have been an interesting story, but it's so bogged down by everything else.

I wasn't planning on watching this but your reasons for it being "bad" actually made me interested.

like what I heard was:

1. it doesn't treat the audience like an idiot and isn't scared to not explain every little detail

2. the characters are all cold towards each other, which is less common in anime and can make for some really interesting plot points.

3. it has a unique art style.

so like....

thanks i guess lol

I was awaiting the end of season 2 to watch it, but the score is even lower than season 1?!
