Why the company didn't make a second season??
๐Ÿ˜”
The manga has a lot to offer!
The company also have enough source material to adapt the whole series cause the manga already end.
Like what exactly is the reason they didn't make a second season?

1. It aired 12 years ago.
2. It was a monthly manga so back then they most likely didn't have enough material for a new season.
3. Would need confirmation with the oricon chart to how it performed back then to actually have a clear image.
4. It was at least enough successful to get an OVA the following year.
5. You should check past twitter or blog about people involved in the production or Kanae Hazuki to know more about it. It's what might actually highlight the situation.

there wasn’t enough source material after the 1st season aired to make a new season, and now the momentum and viewership has already sailed its ship so they probably don’t wanna risk making a 2nd season (especially since it won’t be promoting much since the manga has already ended)

Well, Kimi ni Todoke (which is also vanilla shoujo) anime finished airing 13 years ago and now is returning, so it's not really a valid reason.

I chalk it up to a company that wanted to focus on other anime …
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

@Piromysl Kimi no todoke got a third season because Netflix did a live action and it got a successful response which prompt them to green light another season if you want to use another example use one that rely on the production committee system like that series is made off and to that the cases are few.
