I have noticed some strange frames in this show since season 2.
I suspect they are AI drawn, as some hands have six fingers or have weird anatomy. Coloring feels off as well from some parts of the pictures. Other scenes have weird filters that don't look man drawn. I leave some examples. This show had low production but I'm enjoying the world building and story. Sad they started going in this direction.

this is such a huge bummer, I was wondering why it looked so odd. it’s a shame they had to resort to using stills but it’s honestly really really disappointing that they’re doing this.

Damn that’s definitely caught red handed type of proof. I had thought the stills were an interesting way to make the most out of a low budget, but this is actually sad to see.

It is pretty unlikely based on this image. Even with these errors it is consistent. There are more likely errors in an AI generated image you cannot find here.

Be careful OP, maybe there are some AI drawn pictures under your bed.

I'm not sure where you're seeing six fingers on any of the hands in these images.

@WatchTillTandava in the 2nd picture count how many fingers you see, then try to find their thumb

if that weird finger is their thumb, well...

I was thinking that that was potentially what the user was referring to, but then thought that maybe it's just an oddly drawn thumb.

Well, it is hard to prove or disprove from just those pictures. The hands issue in Image Generators was resolved a year ago, but it isn't impossible that production of this season began earlier than that. However, many other still unresolved issues would also be apparent and I couldn't find any hard tells (I am both an illustrator/photo editor and have my own instance of Stable Diffusion which I play with from to time).

That thumb is very sus for sure, but I have seen weirder ones from actual illustrations, so I could believe it was just some odd stylistic choice or actual inexperience/lack of care from the artist.

In any case, it would be more work to fine tune a model to return images based on the actual character designs (clothes included) in the same old artstyle than to just have someone draw them, if you ask me. This is because you would have to make hundreds -if not thousands- of reference illustrations of each character with each of their outfits on so that they at least pass off as being on-model every time; so that the engine is able to reference them when prompted. They could have also gotten the images from an IG and then modified them to fit the character designs, but at that point you are back to illustrating them and anatomical issues like that would have likely been corrected at that stage. So either route is just as complicated as the other one.

Interesting find, nonetheless. I may have to keep a closer look at those stills.

Or it's just slightly off cause anime is often slightly off. Can we not instantly jump to blaming AI anytime something is a little off or a little bad, seriously.
LOL, your opinion is wrong!

Weird, I thought these illustrations were picked from the novel.

@MomoSinX It's novel, not light novel, there is no illustrations.

I just watched episode 4. Yeah, that's AI art, lol. That still where Touko tries to grab the spider boy when he was pulled into the water, look at her thumb. That's not how any human artist would draw that.

If you haven't watched "Fantastic Children", don't talk about "best anime". Thank you.
