It's so funny when I speak to some people jumping on hate trends for series and if I ask them if they've actually seen it they go "no, but from what I've heard it's trash" I don't get it. The worst type of people in the anime community are those who speak on series they've never seen lol
It's probably less talked about because of the sheer amount of copycats and SAO-inspired anime there are. Really popular shows like MHA and AoT normally survive dips in community discussion that most other series experience after several seasons, but with SAO there are so many other anime that were tailor made to appeal to SAO fans, so now attention is split between all these anime. The series is probably not going to die anytime soon, but it's not going to enjoy that same level of discussion AoT has currently, and the amount of discussion SAO itself had during season 1.
Yes, Mahouka and its MC sounded very awful to me so I never checked it out.
Oh god the memories flooding back.
The right-wing elitist stuff about how the superior are born to rule and fuck the weaklings. These are literal speeches from the MC who he clearly named after himself, to tell off an equality activist. Mind you, in the story the school's lower classes don't get textbooks *or teachers* or resources. It's so dumb you wonder why the school let them in in the first place, since it's an elite school yet treats half the students as worse than shit and refuses to teach them, apparently. Why wouldn't they just admit half the students and treat everyone the same? This was never really explained except it's a needed plot device for the MC to start in the "bad" class and claw his way up into the elite one. The MC's sister explains the shows core belief: elitist class-based systems aren't wrong, it's the test that was wrong because the test put the MC in the "wrong" class when he's clearly a 12-inch penis Demigod who deserves to rule over everyone else.
The racism: the fact that any time anything bad happens, you can bet that a "chinaman" was secretly behind it.
There was a sports-day arc, which went for 10 episodes, the most boring thing ever. MC wasn't chosen for any events, but he secretly won ALL the events, male and female because of his behind the scenes magicking and devices. Finally, he has to sub in for the big final sport event. And it turns out that he had a special ability where if he's ever injured, a non-injured version of himself teleports in from a few seconds before he was hurt, and this ability requires no concentration. So he's literally immune from any form of damage to due subbing in past version of whatever body part is affected.
And then there's the fact that he masters flight magic in one afternoon, between the time of hearing about the problem existing at school, going home, and before his sister comes to give him his afternoon coffee. Later he masters the ability to raise anyone from the dead, so the finale is he's flying laser jesus who murders everyone else and raises the good guys from the dead. I really mean it abot the murder. He blows up a chinese city because of some bad chinamen, nobody gives a shit, happy ending.
Then there's the thing where he does normal stuff and it always seems to devolve into a conversation between 4-5 girls about how well he did it, and how other men couldn't do it that well. This apparently includes things like web browsing for class enrolments, they're amazed at his touch-typing, This actually happens at least two in the anime. At least the second time he wasn't just clicking a website, he was hacking or something.
And one time he was made to tick names off a roster for student's getting on a bus. The girls were amazed that he could stand there and do that because it was a hot day, "a normal person couldn't do that". The guy could fart and 4-5 girls would appear clustered around his asshole to inhale the fumes and segue into a discussion about how his ass fumes were superior to other men.
Alicization is pretty good and the only good thing to ever come out of SAO (haven't seen war of underwold but people are saying it's trash so I problably wont see it), but most people don't give a fuck for it anymore, and for a very good reason
If someone disliked the first season or even dropped it, why in the hell would they want to watch the 3rd?
Some people are like that; they cannot drop an anime no matter how much they dislike it. 'Completionists', they are called. Maybe OCD-related...I dunno.
No that's not it, you're wrong. I'm one of those "Completionist" that you've mentioned, and yes it is OCD related. When I watched MHA season 1 and I disliked it, I decided to give season 2 a shot hoping it would improve, but it didn't. That's when I stopped. When you stop following a series and stopping at a specific season, it doesn't count as dropping. But when you drop an anime mid season, it does count. Hopefully I'm making sense.
The people who keep watching SAO even if they dislike it so much as they claim, they watch because they want to hate, they are not completionists, they merely use that as an excuse. Most of the people that hate on it and say that they watched, didn't even actually watch it. And even if they did watch it, even before watching it they have already decided that it's bad and nothing can change that, so of course they hate it. I like how people keep saying that Kirito is a Gary Stu when he actually isn't, and anyone who watches SAO properly knows that.
I've never thought about 'season by season' and 'dropping' like that...but all right. :O
Yes, I very much love to write about how much a Gary Stu Kirito is not. The term is just so misused. lol I can't help but think they are just biased against the poor boy or...they were half-asleep during his screentime or something. xD

Yo add me bro. I went emo for second.
I agree until SAO 2 came out. Video game rape would make someone mad in real life lmfao? He squareed up with grown man in real life and wins the fight lol. All with messed up arm btw.

lol you came back to normal?
There were rape scenes in sexual assault online 3 (SAO III) twice.
The one in part 1 was well directed and the scene matched with the character and the setting.
The one in part 2 was one of the dumbest thing I've ever seen. The victim was totally submissive and didn't show any resistance at all until she got saved by someone else.

They also focused WAY too long on it too! But the most infuriating thing is how LEWD they made it. Kawahara didn't write it that way at all...unless the novel excerpts fans posted online are false (which I doubt)...but the scene is extremely tame, non-descriptive, and far from the "tentacle hentai" treatment A-1 Pictures decided to give the anime.
I think SAO's just as hated and loved as it ever has been, and no matter how much I and others want it to, I doubt it will fall into irrelevancy for a long time.
It is more "irrelevant" now, but if we were to follow the techology..
Which a tech can intervene a dream, it could be "they" (The elites) already invent this kind of techs/tools..
But for brain part / the soul part..
Soul n brain r two diff part..
We can't have an active brain while there is no soul N vice-versa..
Or could be I am lacking on this kind of knowledge..?
