When the blind musician told North #2 his backstory and childhood, He mentions that a "rogue Japanese doctor" performed the surgery that saved his life but also cost his vision. I was just wondering given the manga author of Monster and Pluto are the same, if anyone knows if that really was Dr. Tenma in the backstory.

I don’t think it was him, since the doctor shown was wearing very different clothes that I don’t remember Dr. Tenma ever wearing. They also had a different seiyuu. Would’ve been cool if they had made it seem like Pluto was in the same universe as Monster, though, with more references to Monster. But now it kinda seems like Urusawa is scraping the bottom of the barrel for character designs and plot instead of trying some references.

@24846 I worded and exaggerated that post kinda terribly, my bad (sorryyyyyyyyy). I was talking about how a character from Pluto, at least in the anime, looked completely identical to Reichwein from Monster. (To me, at least). Just thought that if Urusawa was going to create similar or even identical character designs, he could've probably added a little reference Monster, like maybe hinting at the two stories actually taking place in the same world. A little thought of mine, that's all.

If you are unfamiliar with Osamu Tezuka's other works, one of his most well known series is "Black Jack". It's main character is a brilliant, but unlicensed (Japanese) doctor who charges extravagant fees for his services. While he is more than skilled enough to obtain a medical license, he rejects it because he hates the bureaucracy of the medical system and wants no association with it.

The doctor in Pluto was voiced by Akio Ootsuka in Japanese, and Kirk Thornton in English. These are Black Jack's previous voice actors reprising their role. I think that's especially cool for the English dub for such a small cameo.
