| The original Fooly Cooly has a feeling like Tales From the Loop by Simon Stålenhag. Growing up in the shadow of an enormous and mysterious industry. Its like simultaneously making something fantastical mundane, but also hopeful. Like, we never knew how strange our lives were, but there is nothing better. This is another failed attempt. The animation alone prevents it from having grunge's "Heavy and Bleak" theme. The voice acting was sad, the father used to enunciate and have drive, now it's like an attempt to mimic a hardened, mumbling, yakuza. It's just bad, bad is bad, you can describe it and say why all day, but you see it clear as day. Good doesn't need an essay to scratch out relevance in its niche, it demands your attention... this... isn't that. |

| Why to exhume this series just to destroy it? Incredible how studios and producers lots of times work in a irrational way. Meanwhile they milked this one horribly, and also Evangelion had a not-so-necessary remake-sequel (which at least concluded the series the way Hideaki wished after winning over depression)... there is another GAINAX classic that was unfairly forgotten: Karekano. |

As far as viewers, its hard to tell unless they released numbers. Ratings across the net put them solidly under average scores. What's honestly worse is that only a few hundred people even bothered to watch/rate them. Grunge has the most at 2,000 on an Anime centric website. IMBD has ratings from as few as 13 on Shoegaze. Where as FLCL classic has 425,000. Huge caveat in that FLCL has been around a long time and had the benefit of years to gain those numbers, but I highly doubt these abominations will reach even a 1/4th those numbers in 10 years. We just need studios to stop abusing old IP. |
