The anime was OK overall, still a decent watch but S2 was definitely rushed.. Alot of time skipped and the ending felt like they had no time left so they rushed the hell out of everything. I've not read the manga yet but they showed scenes of a amazing arc. Sad ending to a great anime. Didn't get the justice it should've 😭

literally everything. first three eps are fine, then it goes downhill. skipped an entire fucking arc, the most important and best imo, and just yeeted two of the best characters of this show out of existence and the last ep was just utter bullshit. even tho the manga's ending isn't good either, it's WAYY better than the anime.

They crammed 100+ chapters into 11 episodes so everything was very rushed. They also completely cut out several fan favorite characters and arcs while adding in some terrible original content that only made it worse. Needless to say manga readers hated it. But many anime only viewers hated it too because it was clearly rushed, made no sense, had no tension, and was just boring a lot of the time.

The manga is really good though, so if you want to continue the story just read the manga instead.

Season 2 is painful for manga readers for the entirety but the ending is where it becomes painful for everyone

I’ve just finished s1 which was great and now watching the 22m recap for s1 & the first half of s2 and s2 doesn't seem terrible from what iv seen so far.

What supposedly lets it down since it’s so widely despised?

SPOILER SPOILER

How about a random “ time skip “ aka the cut content everyone talks about then they throw Norman back in the mix and within literally like 4 minutes of screen time we apparently have all the answers. it’s all rushed and then badly pieced together at an attempt to make a original story out of an already completed series

it's just not even close to being as good as the manga with all the cut content and anime original ending. adaptations like that are never good

Even as an anime only i can easily tell how low the quality dropped.
First season was the best suspense anime I've ever seen period. Things were constantly on the edge. We felt like everything could go wrong every minute and decisions characters made had consequences.

But in the sequel characters no longer had to plan and put effort in anything, because convinient solutions were juet happening without their involvement and antagonists were stupid.
The worst part was Emma, who was IMO the best protegonist of 2019. She felt real, had moments or weaknesses, was relatable and resourcerul.
In sequel she was just a Mary Sue. Always correct and morally superior, thus boring ans insufferable. Wants to befriend demons because "that's moral thing to do" and managed to Talk no Jutsu final boss into commiting suicide in like two sentences.

You really do not need to read the manga to notice how dogshit this sequel was.

Exactly season one the characters drive the story in season 2 everyone’s riding the wave of shit that is called the story

they s2 is not the same as the manga, they say it ruined they show or smth

i heard manga version is really loved by community, so when they strayed it had to be either super good or its just not gonna work

to me it was fine, not the worst or the best
i think s1 was enough where it left us at
i didnt read the manga btw

both the manga and anime struggled to follow course after the masterpiece that was the first half of the story, promised neverland is mostly known for that escape room-esk anime. It was super intriging seeing the characters come up with a plan to escape with everyone as their death days approached

I'm still finishing this show so can't read the rest of the replies here yet - but has it been said how awful some of the scene shot transitions are?

I'm on episode 9 and theres a shot where one character walks up to another menacingly, the next shot is that character taking a step back in fear and then the shot straight after is them on the floor with no transition of them falling - its some of the worst production values I've ever seen.

the manga itself had tons of flaws after the happenings of the first season, it was bound to be a terrible second season and they managed to fuck it up even further with the arc skips and deviation.

i watched season 1, than I read the whole manga and now i just finished season 2.
And to be honest, I don't get the hate. Yeah it's worse than the manga and even more worse compared to s1. But it isn't THAT bad since the manga isn't perfect either.
It's a shame they removed the undoubtedly best character and the golden pond arc, but most of it was like in the manga. Yeah, they skipped multiple chapters but the manga was also sometimes "conveniently written".
It's not good though, it's just not that awful imo. It's a mediocre execution of a decent manga which has it's own flaws.

It feels like nothing really happened in season 2. They run here, they run there. Speak nonsense, speak naive things,

I have not read the manga so I DON'T CARE if the anime left out things from the manga (this is going to happen anyhow, get over it) or if the ending is different.
What I do care about is that the writing seemed worse , the voice acting (in the Japanese version) somehow seemed worse than the first season, and the ending that we did get was extremely cheesy. Though I didn't think that the anime was "all over the place" as another poster said, the tone was consistent until the last few episodes, where it got very silly.
I also don't agree with the comment that it "dragged on", I actually think the opposite and that it felt rushed.

Also, manga readers, DO NOT respond to this post preaching to me how great the manga is, I'll form my own opinion when/if I read it. Also judging from reviews, it seems like the second half of the manga may have the same exact problems as the second season of the anime did for me. But again I'll find out if I read it.
