| I loved this season. It was more about the emotional growth and overcoming your past than about actual boxing, and ended up being one of the more mature anime I have seen in awhile. Bravo. |

| Ok, this was anticlimactic even by the standards of MB. I actually regret watching this season, I this that the first one ended on a much better note. There only good thing about S2 is the middle part, but it wasn't worth spoiling my overall experience with the show. Basically I agree with most of this: BrawlerJoe said: the final episode was a huge disappointment battle was disappointing no emotions no drama no hype no adrenaline I don't want to compare it to anj but they just RUINED the whole hype for me they could've done a better episode better ending I'm not saying that joe's death was necessary but they could've done a better ending why joe was sick? why tf they showed in episode 12 like he was about to die in the ring? why so many emotions in previous episodes if they ruined everything in the last episode? they could do a more dramatic and emotional episode but no unnecessary "happy ending" without any explanation. why in the first season every ending was with the title "not dead yet" why they talked 90% in this episode and 10% fight? and they ended it quickly without any emotion IDK this is an alternative universe of ANJ this is a tribute to Ashita no joe and deserved a masterpiece ending just like Ashita no joe *sigh* This whole season felt like the creators wanted to indulge themselves into writing a feelgood/wholesome story, without thinking how it will really fit into Megalo Box's narrative. Did they do it because MB has some recognition already and fears afraid that nobody would care for an independent OG anime run? I am usually one that welcomes further instalments into a franchise since they simply expand the lore for those interested (think Psycho-Pass), but in this case the sequel actively hurts the established characters (unlike Psycho-Pass where the old faces never suffered for being included in the sequels). I hate to end a series review on such a note but just... *sigh*. |

| Good ending, not great but good. I'm happy both Joe and Mac survived the fight and Sakuma got what he deserved, even if he will not realize what was wrong with his ways. The final match is disappointing, a forfeit at the end of Round 2 seems too short for a retirement match. But Nanbu was there... I'm happy that he protected Joe in the end. My only real disappointment is that Joe and Sachio got separated again, and Sachio takes Joe's bike! I wish they'd get closer as friends or family. I wish there was more closure to the story, the drama is fine but it missed something, Season 1 ending was perfect. 9/10 (same vote as Season 1). Great season, I'm pretty sure we'll never see a third season nor a movie! |
