Once more, I hate being spoiled so I know how utterly infuriating it is so I do my absolute best to avoid giving spoilers when talking about things, so once more large spoilers. I will be talking about the end of the light novel and the end of the Manga and Anime when it does end. Also this is kind of long okay so if you do not know the end of devil is a part timer ends up with Mahou acknowledging Chiho's feelings and reciprocating them, therefor ending up with Chiho and not Emi, this made many fans quite shocked. A lot of people came out swinging, being very upset with the ending, so much so that the author even ended up receiving death threats. Here is what I have to say, keep in mind I am a Mahou X Chiho shipper so I am actually really happy with the ending. I believe that Mahou X Emi would have been way to cliché, it is something I have seen a million times where the once enemies are now lovers. I find it very charming that Satoshi Wagahara went the way of having Mahou look back at the person who has loved them from the very being and always been there for them, and realize how much they care for that person. I think the Chiho ending up with a foreign demon king from another world is cute, and a very nice conclusion for his character to end up with a human and someone not even from his world; I also feel personally connected to this concluson because of my similar situation; not the isekai stuff. It is a ending I kind of hold close to my heart. I too have had times when I read a manga, light novel, or watch an Anime and get upset with a certain direction it has gone, however I have never gotten that upset and never even close to the level of wishing death or something terrible upon the creator, or sending death threats, often times the change will even grow on me and I will grow to like it rather than dislike it. If you get that upset about something, you have a problem, and you should not consume media produced by someone. I am proud of Satoshi Wagahara for ending the story how he wanted to end it and not forced my the mass media and the internet to end it a certain way. People often bring up how with writing your own story you can write it however you want, but this could not be further from the truth. When your story gets popular enough it can begin to get influenced by tons of places, wanting you to go the way they want it to go, the greatest of these influences being the fans. Fans is always a funny word in my opinion because it makes you think that it is someone who likes something, but you would be surprised by how quickly on the flip of a coin they will turn on you when you do something they dislike; they aren't fans of you, your work, or your story they are the fans of something going the way they want it to go, or at least this is how it is for a lot of people. The writer gets to end THEIR story how they want too, you cannot control what they do, The mangaka or light novel writer deserves to end it the way they want to |

I actually find her goddamn annoying at times when she tries to butt in which makes me dislike her. Still prefer Emilia but no issue with the ending. |

It’s pretty obvious why people would prefer Emi, so far in the anime and as someone who’s caught up with the manga, she’s by far a better character and is far more interesting. Chiho doesn’t have a whole lot going for her imo besides her innocence and loving a devil king despite everything. From what I’ve heard, the author also spent a lot of time supposedly building up something between Emi and Maou and then giving the readers a big F U with the ending. Imo the anger is justified, minus the death threats and other extremities. |

I agree that death threats etc. are too supreme, but I also get it why people are so angered about this outcome. From my point of view you miss the point why fans are so angry about the whole situation: 1. If author planned to make it Maou x chiho ending from the start - he should have developed her well enough for people to actually accept such ending, but what did fans get? Mostly Mary Sue situations or Chiho being useless and being a 3rd wheel to the story going on about Maou how much she loves Maou and her jealousy when Emi was involved. 2. Introducing Alas Ramus and making Maou and Emi as her parents... I think I don't need to add more except the fact that if it was never meant to be real in the end, then why even introduce it in the first place. Now it just looks like a father cheated on mother and abandoned their child, really... 3. Emi and Maou character and relationship growth just to be thrown into a ditch. Simply put author wrote himself into a corner by developing their relationship, their character development and maturity into accepting each other despite being a hero and a demon. 4. Chiho won cause author was simping for her (in interviews etc. so everyone knew about it), but no one expected he would literally throw all the development between Maou and Emi out the window, for the sake of making his ship a reality. Let's be honest if he knew he was gonna do it he should have given more screentime to Chiho and develop her instead of Emi rather than make 20 volumes focus on Maou and Emi's growth, their relationship and parenting Alas Ramus. In other words he betrayed the fans who I assume mostly kept reading it with expectations of different outcome and ending which was built upon for 20 volumes+. He could have given them some sign earlier so the more hardcore fans could drop the story/books before they get milked by buying the books for the outcome they never wanted to see, and author did it for entire 20 books just to destroy them in last book and make them despise the fact that they even supported this series by buying all the books. There is propably more points, but I think those 4 are the biggest ones and even I agree with them. I personally don't like the story cause of the points above, I don't hate Chiho, but I would never consider her end-game girl in this story cause of how little development she got and it was never build upon. Even Suzuno got more development so her ending would be more acceptable I guess, but it would also not fit cause of how the story was written and who was the focus of the entire 20 books. Author destroyed the story himself that's the truth, he destroyed fans expectations and fanbase this series had. To avoid it he should have literally drop some hints in the story just like author of Quintuplets did (Miku and Nino were fan favs and yet they lost to the most unexpected one - but there were hints since the beginning so fans aren't that angry about it nor send death threats). Cause of all of this this series lost huge fanbase and hype around it. Just looking at s1 viewer numbers and comparing it to s2 and s3 already shows how big of an impact this ending had and it's only my assumption but people who watch s2/s3 are ones who are indifferent to the ending / Chiho shippers or ones who didn't hear about the ending yet. |

There is a lot of bias as you explained yourself so I get it, but the outrage is 100% justified (not death threats obviously), I have read Quintessential Quintuplets so I am very familiar with things not going a certain direction and doing something left field, but QQ's endgame was accepted bcz it was somewhat hinted throughout, it was just the least likely outcome... Why didn't the other 2 most likely fanbases burn copies or send death threats?? There were 4 other fanbases in that (there was minority outrage)... Bcz it was justified by the story... Changing ships at the end is not the problem, the problem here was that the author never considered Chiho as the endgame. Look at Chihayafuru for example, that was a brilliant example of how not to write yourself into a corner and have the ability to change ship... So, I would've accepted either way bcz of the brilliant character developments for both (flag)ships and respective alternate ships, she (the author) kept me guessing until the end and I was so relieved by the outcome I cried. My friend supported the other ship and he was sad a bit but understood why Chihaya chose him and not him (hehe!), bcz the story that was told to us for the last 15 years made sense for that outcome... Here it is not the case, (it's majority outrage) others have mentioned why Chio doesn't make sense except for creating controversy which backfired for the author.... Your personal opinion is clouding your judgement... The ending was not intended and was just a whim of the author and that's disrespectful to your story and fanbase... Shock value isn't always appreciated... This was nothing but a shock value attempt GONE WRONG!! (EMOTIONAL) LoL |
