I thought it was a really good introduction of how the plot is going to be, a really solid job and I am very excited about what this anime has to offer.

One of the things I love about the show is a lot of the details, objects, and creatures are references to real folklore and mythology.

Majestic start, I knew it'd be there because the OVAs had them too. Quite a bit of time passed it seems after the events we had in OVA, though I'm sure they'll at some point show how Chise ended up in slavery, atleast I hope so. Things went fine fortunately, even towards the end but I guess there's a need to be aware because the errie atmosphere has no subtle presence to say the least. Anyways that wifey thing sure gave me a good laugh lol.

Two cour series, means plenty to look forward to.

Pretty standard start imo. Will be interesting to see what happens from here on out. Elias seems nice and Chise seems broken but we'll see what her story is... aside from the flashes we saw in this episode.

I love it. only problem is the pedophilia 🤦🏽 if the MC was just 3 years older it would've been barely justifiable

Elias & Chise's relationship is quite unorthodox and to some extent abusive. Chise has free will, yet she's still bound to Elias as a slave, she's a pet, but also an mage apprentice, she's already family, but she will become a bride in time; all of these on her own choice.

Of course I'm sensing this "apparently" abusive relationship will be beneficial for both parties, probably more for Ellias, since no one in their right mind would spill out 5mill pounds out of plain charity on a single individual. And I'm pointing it out on the element of raising a mage apprentince in a world where this kind of scholars are pretty much extinct as Ellias mentioned early on.

Decided to watch this after seeing Violet Evergarden and Natsume Yuujinchou as the top two anime in the Recommendations list, as a fan of both anime I hope this will not disappoint me :)

Even though Chise's past is a [b]bit]/b] similar to Natsume's but they have different charms, I hope I can like her as much as I love Natsume.

Good production value (as to be expected, I remember this being one of the critical successes of its year), but a few aspects of the story aren't working yet—namely character motivation.
Selling yourself into slavery is a BIG action, and it's one that so far feels unearned (and as it's the inciting incident, it really should have felt earned). We get a glimpse at some of Chise's motivations might be and her mental space at the time, but it is nowhere near enough. The little we get from Elias (which is more than what we get from the main character) is more acceptable since he is part of this new world we are about to explore. I'm hoping we actually get to see Chise learn and delve into the magic and its rules of this story (there really aren't too many anime that do that, with the best honestly being Hunter x Hunter since so many magic systems in anime trend softer).
I'm hoping this was just a weak start and that we'll get more of those elements in the future.
Also, Chise being forcibly stripped was uncomfortable and unnecessary.

I'm not sure what you mean by "earned" in this context, but it's at least spelled out clearly enough that she has been hated all her life, and it's implied she was going to kill herself, that's when she gets manipulated to sell herself into slavery. I'm not saying there aren't issues with this premise, but it seemed believable enough to me. Personally, I thought the bath scene was funny, and it gives you some insight into Elias's character, since he thinks absolutely nothing about seeing her naked, but to each their own.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

It's only episode one, and the concept is already fantastic. I can't wait to see these two grow as people together. God I can't wait to cry when we get more into both of their backstories.

Yuck Yuck Yuck...1st episode creepy af! Maybe if they gave dude a normal face not spawn of satan it would be a bit more watchable. I like Chise as a character, but that demon is super creepy. Also, SHE IS A CHILD! wtf

Was an enjoyable start. I expect good things from this anime. Seems like it will be a good one. The ratings are very good too so I expect it to live up to those.

@BlueBullet178 honestly im dissapointed that it took me so long to find a comment addressing this. although i liked the concept of this anime, it got ruined by the unnecessary romance. i wish chise could just remain as his student instead of becoming his bride, which is weird in so many aspects.

amo sia come rappresentano Elias (?), anche nei momenti più teneri, sia come rappresentano la volontà e la paura di amare e di essere amati di chise. Wow, promette veramente bene quest'opera.

Yet another typical anime trope where we're showered with a ton of information all at once, and they essentially say, 'Just deal with it.' If the director of this anime or the manga author were writing Harry Potter, by the second minute you'd already hear the line, 'You're a wizard, Harry. Here's your magic wand and broomstick'.
I hope the second episode will be better.
