The previous episode was strange but this one is even more, for other reasons.
Until now, the isekai part felt really secondary and it was really focused on School life theme to the point I thought it was actually the main theme (mc turning to a superhot guy and trying to adapt to it in school life and the isekai thing was just a premise to explain how he changed).
But now, it's like "oh right, it's a isekai, we have to do isekai stuff" and we are abruptly on full isekai mode, with world building and plot related to this world (it's very late to introduce us to these elements, I really feel like "why do you suddenly bother with that now and at this point ?").
It's nearly like watching a different anime. I didn't read the source material so I have no idea if the issue comes from the adaptation or the from the source material, but the 2 genres are not well merged together (because of the writing since here it's not really well achieved, but the concept does work eg "Beelzebub" -not an isekai but it's about dealing with school life and another world which is hell-). It's really coming back and forth between the two genres, like they are trying to do 2 different things at the same times just because these genres sell well, but without having think it throughout. Like, the isekai part doesn't serve any real purpose aside of explaining why mc looks good and is skilled, but everything is so convenient, having legendary weapons, xp boost as a world traveler and all that to this point it could just have been skipped altogether like in "Lookism" anime and it would be a bit less "stupid" (since everytime the mc is just given op upgrades without him even trying to get them, better to drop all of these explanations since it's uninteresting and we kinda got the point).
In the end, it would have been wiser to just make two different IP, one being the school life thing and the other one being an isekai thing, because I don't really see the point of mixing the two genres here. The MC is just basically living two different lifes at the same time but there is no even struggle or focus on this aspect (in opposition of "Lookism" anime who struggles to deal with his old and new life at the same time) since he can conveniently teleport where and when he wants. That's was fun average school life anime (with an isekai premise) but since the previous episode it becomes really messy and I have no idea where it's headed. |
