With the auditions over, everyone is handed a debrief from conductor Ayukawa, including the promise that whoever can surpass the 3rd Years will be placed to the front (which both Aono and Saeki took the helm). Adding to that, Harada stresses the concert's thematics with acting President Tateishi ringing the club's temporary hiatus for a week due to exams. Aono, knowing how bad his grades are, does not take lightly to this, and while Hime chides Hatori for losing to either Aono or Saeki, ultimately, his choice would be that he'd left things the way that it is, though he'll still continue to pursue it. Saeki also receives the notice from Ayukawa himself, which he is elated, but Aono is in for a serious notice that he'd not beat Saeki in music, but in studies as well. And so it is, a study session in the library, which raises Aono's embarrassing past of his first performance where his former father forced him into the territory, there Saeki is too, sharing the same surprises that Aono received of being the next concert master, though he feels bad that he fell sick and could not have a proper battle with him.

Taking a little breather, both Aono and Saeki sneaked into the music room to play the violin, though the latter started questioning whether if Aono truly pushed his mettle to the metal. And before they could do so, Hatori is in the same position, though he saved both of their asses, being used to Ayukawa's lectures. A secret room where practices can be held, Hatori was indeed practicing because he felt embarrassed by the audition's performance, though he questions Aono about the feedback that Ayukawa gave him. To Hatori, Aono's playing is good, though it's always up to the player to pick up those sounds and relate it to the audience, though his heart. And though Ayukawa's feedback needs not be taken seriously, he speaks with intent in mind, while getting lectured by Hatori, who has good grades surprisingly enough. But the challenge to Saeki, is that Aono played his best, though thanks to Hatori, he's able to clear his mind better.

For now, tests are on the docket, and with it being over, Summer break is on the horizon...and Aono feels a sense of achievement, though his results...are decent. And Hatori sure doesn't mind Hime's cooking, failure or not, he likes everything black.

The 2nd half of the show has kicked into gear and will keep rocking from here on out.

Given that playing the violin and his father are inextricably intertwined in his mind, until he resolves his feelings concerning his father he's going to keep having thoughts of his father interfering with his playing the violin.
Considering he gave it up entirely for several years, literally locking it all away in the studio at their home, it's not something that he can handwave away.
The impact upon his mother is very much tied to how he reacted, and had something to do with his decision to just lock it all up and act as if it had nothing to do with his life any longer.
So it's not just his dad, but his mom as well.
He needs to talk with her.
She's been glad he got involved with helping Akine, and doesn't seem to have negative reactions to his starting up again and being involved with the club and such, so I really think he needs to get clear in his head her take on all of this now that some time has passed, so he can then look at it with fewer variables in play.

That could all be bogus thinking on my part, of course.
I haven't had experiences like this myself.

But if the idea is to be a conduit between the composer and the audience, it helps to clean out the pipes, make sure there isn't any static on the line, unneeded blockage.

He needs to shift his thinking and emotions such that he can draw upon his memories of his father such that they are of benefit to his playing.
His affairs weren't everything about him, but they are what gets talked about by gossipers.
Everyone is a mixed bag.
The past cannot be changed, but the present and future are still in flux.

I've had the sense that in ways there is a wall, a barrier, between himself and his past performance & style. The above ties in with that at least to an extent.

Aono has learnt a lot about violin practice and more from his senpai, teachers, friends and he will incorporate their teachings to improve more.

kind of boring chapter but I did like the conversation between aono and saeki. Aono being honest that was his best and telling him that he quit the violin for a while, saeki may be disappointed but aono can and will improve.

That was a close call about their academics standing in the way of their musical aspirations.

It is also nice Saeki and Aono really becoming true rivals. They really are literally true bros, huh?

Kind of an intermission episode between the cours and events ig, nothing much happened but the character interactions were nice. Hattori so far is very senpai like and Hime senpai kawaii. Though Akine not wanting to help Hajime with studying kinda felt bad considering how much he has helped her with violin but anyway.
