From all of the people I've talked to that even watch anime, this one is rarely discussed. But I do see that it is somewhat popular on this platform so I just want to see everyone's opinion on this. Did you enjoy the plot? Do you think the characters had good depth to their personalities or were they shallow? Was the sequence of events and story writing good in your eyes? Those are all questions that can be discussed here but MOST IMPORTANTLY. How did it make you feel? Is this a series that comforts you and gives good memories or one you'd rather not watch? You're entitled to your own emotions and I wanna hear what you have to say! Thanks a bunch :D
i mean i liked the anime very much liked the story and all and i honestly think it deserves a 3rd season but i dont know why did it already happen i mean season 2 ending had a massive cliffhanger so obviously season 3 was in the plans but for some reason it didnt happen.
I would say it was an ok series, not bad(it was enjoyable).
And about it getting a 3rd season, it won't be bad if it got another season but people feels really frustrated when they see that it has 2 seasons because rakudai kishi started on same day, had better animation and progression, and was much popular than asterisk but both having kinda same start. But then rakudai kishi only got 1 season, so it still bugs some people.
Ngl most of my memories of watching this are blurred with https://myanimelist.net/anime/30296/Rakudai_Kishi_no_Cavalry which aired at the same time and I haven't watched either since then. I think Rakudai Kishi was probably better tho, but I remember liking the OPs (in 2016)

same here, i find these two shows kind of similar but i always liked cavalry of a failed knight better. i got a feeling asterisk war kinda over shadowed it because they both aired at the same time and asterisk war was more famous...
When I was new to anime, this one was one of my first 10s of anime, and I liked it enough to even download it and rewatch it a few times. I'd say this was a show that definitely helped me in developing an interest to anime. Though kinda feels weird that I have a bit of bias towards action anime nowadays, but yeah, Gakuen Toshi Asterisk, along with Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry definitely give me some nostalgia. But yeah, had watched Digibro's video on how trash it was, not that it made me hate the show or anything, I was laughing all the way, having so much fun, seeing such a show that definitely was for weak teenagers, like remember seeing Ayato ran from Claudia? When Digibro pointed that out, I was laughing really hard, and also, it made me remember how when I first watched, that scene felt something like... "ahahaha... same..." without even realizing it. Like sheesh. When Digibro mentioned about how he would have enjoyed it maybe as a teenager, it made me think of him as honest, like yeah, he was really honest while talking about The Asterisk War, that's that YAS season(?) was fun. Though yeah, as for what would I think of it nowadays? Um... trashy show but I can see myself still enjoying it on the re-watch. Like the memories, plus finding the new best girl, Saya was best girl for me I think? Or was it Kirin? But yeah, probably will still be Kirin because of how cute she was. Though I never know, maybe it might be some side or villain character lol. Though yeah, most importantly, to see how differently it is compared to my first watches.
Sillyconing Shenanigans:
Like I remember back around that time, I watched Chuunibyu demo Koi ga Shitai!, and felt bored when it got dramatic and stuff, but then I re-watched it some weeks ago and it was the best to the point where I'd score it a high 9. XD. That's how much I enjoy it now compared to back then. Like this new shift in my taste, like now I can see drama as a nice genre, well... no, I still hate Anohana, well... I liked Anohana back then actually but when I heard someone talk about it... even in a positive light, I was like "Huh, this show is really trash". I still do think that to this day but I wonder what happens if I actually re-watch it. Like I can accept some dramas in certain conditions... Idk what those conditions are tbh. I actually liked Slam Dunk's drama when I finally started watching it last year. (I continued onto episode 72 a couple or a few days ago despite haven't watched for a while and it was a huge blast!) Like... Slam Dunk's drama is like... I can easily see past me see it as incredibly annoying. I mean, when Ahiru no Sora aired, I skipped the backstories because all I wanted was basketball action, and didn't get much of that. However, as someone who is now enjoying Slam Dunk again, like even if a play gets transitioned into a backstory, I don't even get mad anymore, I actually care about characters now and seeing backstories make me really happy seeing how much players have grown, or what their motivations are, like damn, why did it take me this long to like those things? XD. Though yeah, really enjoyed Space Brothers too last year, which has a lot of backstories as well and it was really enjoyable, or touching, would be a better term to use. Wait a minute, was talking about Gakuen Toshi Asterisk, how'd I get here? XD. I shall cover this in spoilers since it's technically irrelevant. Wouldn't delete because I enjoy other people talk about what they like, or dislikes, or impressions, or etc., Like just watched a video on The Godfather about how a main character evolves and it was very interesting, or how Mental Checkpoint talks about Game Design, just like Game Maker's Toolkit, Daryl Talks Games, Cursed Judge(?), yabe, I forgot the last one ahahaha. But yeah, life is nice. And so are Saya no Uta and Phenomeno. 2 horror VNs. The latter being an occultic horror like Death Mark, and the former being more like a... Cthullu-ish(?) horror? Yeah, haven't seen much of Cthullu tbh besides like... the dating Sims that ManlyBadassHero has LP'd. But yeah, Saya no Uta is more like a... romantic horror? Not in the sense of like that one anime about cheating and taking yandere to the highest level. Um... forgot it's name, damn. Yeah, I definitely wouldn't like that type of drama. Hm, yeah, Ig I have some sort of preferences for drama. Hm. Well actually applies to all genres really. Like I like Slice of Life but I don't think much about Anne Happy or Hinako Note, even though they're nice Slice of Life anime, but on the other hand, I really really like Houkago Teibou Nisshi, so there's some sort of like hierarchy of tiers for Slice of Life anime in my world. Like I'd say Anne Happy was fun, but it just doesn't sit well with me that much. Perhaps it's the pacing? Maybe it's not funny enough? Maybe because it isn't one of my first tens of anime? Or maybe the humor isn't really that much for me. I can feel the same sentiment for Love Lab. Like... feels really weird because it feels like those shows would hit the right spots. I mean I liked Gabriel Dropout a lot, so I can see Anne Happy and Love Lab in the same light, like Gabriel Dropout's comedy is focused on the ironies for the angels and demons in some sense, while Anne Happy's comedy is focused on the misfortune of our characters, and Love Lab is focused on our characters that are researching about love. Like these premises I definitely think are to be indicators of fun, so why is only one of them a 9 for me? Hm. Favorite characters in Gabriel Dropout? Satania no.1. I like how smug she is yet she's treated like trash. Vignette is a nice to comparison to Satania because she has what Satania truly wants at times. Also a nice devil XD. Raphiel is great for obvious reasons. Tenma as well. Hm. Anne Happy? Main character is always positive no matter what horrible situation she's in. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, I remember seeing random Anne Happy clips in anime compilations and I find them to be funny. Love Lab... uh... I forgot tbh. Been a long while since I watched but I do remember funny things. Even saw clips of them in anime compilations and lmao. I need to re-watch it. Though yeah, I remember being bored halfway through I think. Hm. Which reminds me... why do I like Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku a lot? I remember getting a bit bored around like the 4th episode, but when I decided to keep on going, I ended up liking it so much that I scored it a low 9. Same as my score for Show by Rock!. Low 9s for me are like surprise scores, like I didn't expect to like an anime that much. Not that all my low 9 anime are like that but I usually remember them for that. Though yeah, Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku huh. Likable because... I forgot, I'll have to re-watch it. I remember it being really random lol, just like Anne Happy and Love Lab. Hm... Anne Happy's cute transitions... also I like almost all OPs and EDs of the anime I just mentioned. I'll have to include Slow Start too then, I mean... realizing that the ED was made by Sangatsu no Phantasia, not that I know them that much tbh but I really like the singer's voice, plus Beelzebub-jou no Okinimesu's(?) OP was also made by them. Like once I found that connection, I felt really happy. Also felt happy realizing that Nanawo Akari sung both the ED for Engage Kiss, and the OP for Happy Sugar Life. Like... good stuff. Nano.Ripe as well with singing the OPs for Hanasaku Iroha and Non Non Biyori. Also Sankarea though I've put that show on-hold for a long while so Idk if it was the OP or ED. Lol, Citrus pops up in my head. Hm, yeah, scrolling up and wow. I type too much... and that's a good thing. :D. Though yeah,-
basically Gakusen Toshi Asterisk is a nostalgic favorite.
More Sillyconing Shenanigans:
Though Photokano feels really really nostalgic with how its own vibes give, like the OP and ED giving me some sort of feeling... + the anime felt so relaxed and stuff... can it be considered an Iyashikei? XD. No but it definitely reminds me of Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko in that sense, giving me similar feelings of... nostalgia...? Hm, right, read a bit of Summer Pockets (and I'm enjoying it) and the granny at the start said that "nostalgia without familiarity is called deja Vu", which I agree with a tiny bit but the feeling I'm trying to describe is something along those lines. Like... hm... and also, I can see myself feeling this same feeling when reading Slice of Life visual novels. Definitely more so if it's along the lines of country, or very relaxed neighbourhood like Clannad. Oh, I remember talking with a friend about how I found a person talking about their favorite genre of Visual Novels is natsuyasumi, aka, summer, or something along those lines, (oh, saw in a MAL thread btw), and it just made me feel that sense of... nostalgia... or deja Vu, or whatever it's probably called. Like realizing that the natsuyasumi genre would actually give off those feelings, I mean... Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko definitely feels like natsuyasumi. Photokano as well. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou as well XD. Though that one feels more relaxing than nostalgic in my experience, though that's probably because I watched it while not being new to anime anymore. I watched Denpa and Photokano while I was new to anime so those feelings are heightened. Lol, Seiren and Amagami SS were similar since Photokano's dating sim structure is the same. Photokano really hits home though. :). Oh, just realized I'm continuing these long thoughts lol. Would be nice to translate them into videos one day lmao. Though the text format is the most comfortable since I wouldn't need to reveal my voice or anything and possibly get doxxed or something. Has happened to vtubers even which is like damn. Talking about Nux. Like he's not in a vtuber company or something and he still managed to get swatted? Scary. Anyways, time to read some Aokana. :D. So much to do XD. Have a big anime watchlist, have many VNs to read, I still have to continue reading Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp, and also read more manwha. Also need to get back into reading manga. Need to finish Slam Dunk. Also getting started on the To-Love-Ru series and sheesh, it's about to get chaotic. I can see why past me put it on-hold since it feels slow-paced but I can take slow-pace nowadays considering that I've managed to finish Space Brothers. Actually... Clannad is one of my first 10s of anime, and I liked it even though it felt weird, and it's a 10 for me even up to this day... hm... yeah.. I have specific preferences in every genre or style or etc.. Lol. I wonder how I'll experience Tegami Bachi in the future, or perhaps nowadays. Like the premise doesn't really interest me and I've put it on-hold for a long time for that same reason, but like... hm. Oh well. Everyone has different interests. Like how I scored Clockwork Planet and Black Bullet as high 9s for being nostalgic favorites. Actually, I can still see myself enjoying them now so like, yeah, nice. Anyways, been typing for too long lol. Sheesh. Yeah, I should go back to that Denpa thread and mention Natsuyasumi Visual Novels. Like Denpa is so unique lol.

Really enjoyed this series and I am still waiting for a 3 season.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

They both had good stories, characters, and were enjoyable to watch.
Rakudai Kishi deserved another season, if there was content.
And this one deserved a 3rd season.
I don’t think we need to state witch was better, they have similarities, but they are different anime.

I didn't like it, there was no character depth, the story and character types were very ordinary, but what bothered me the most was that despite the bad events that happened, they went to win the tournament like going to the market and solved all the bad events emotionlessly, which made the already average anime even lower in my eyes, even if I watched it just to look at the harem, the harem was just an NPC community devoid of harem elements, in short, I didn't like it at all. (I don't remember the events exactly because I watched it a long time ago)
It was great tbh , I've watched chivalry one and asterisk war one after another just 1month back so I can differentiate between them easily . If I compare it with chivalry one then it has better soundtracks, world building (the main reason of it is it's sequel), animations (odd opinion) and VAs . The main characters of chivalry one is better in all terms but the side characters are slightly better in asterisk war. I think it deserves a 3rd season , the only problem is that chivalry fans kinda blindly hate it because both have a similar plot and got released at the same time , still it got a sequel and chivalry didn't . You can call it jealousy too.

Same here that was a better series than Asterisk War.
This is one is funny to me. It was only my second anime, after finishing MHA(at least Season 5, at the time) and I saw this show. I can't really say for sure what compelled me to watch it, but when I first started it I never checked the ecchi and harem tags... so, you can imagine all the tropes that came with it:
•Big booba older girl(smash)
•"It's not like I like you but kiss me" pink haired tsundere
•Childhood best friend who's also a loli
•13 YEAR OLD GIRL THATS ALSO A LOLI(seriously, how did she even get in this school with 16 year olds??)
•The Golden Rule of all Ecchi(and most harems): Oh, a guy and a girl are in a room? LETS MAKE THEM FU-
(wait that's wrong)
*ahem*
LET'S HAVE HER CLOTHES RANDOMLY FALL OFF(and a bunch of close up shots, a LOT of close ups)
But, the action in this show is.. surprisingly great! The animation in the fights is super stylistic, and looks pretty solid for when it came out. And the music in this show is honestly such a bop(seriously, Brand New World/OP 1 is a certified hood banger) and the voice actors are good enough. I can't speak for the sub, since I watched the dub, but I imagine it's just as good there. So, basically, for a title when you first start out your weeb days, you could watch this, or watch it while drunk, as it's hard to take a whole lot or even Ayato's sister plotline serious with all of the fanservice, but it does its job good enough. As Trixie the Golden Witch discussed in one of the videos they made, there are NUMEROUS plot holes, but if you just want something to laugh at or just see booba with swords, then this is for you. I have a lot of nostalgia for it, so I'll probably rewatch it again at some point, but yeah, it has a ton of flaws, so take that as you will. Dumb weeb signing out!

Never said it's an isekai, but yes, it is a harem.
Maybe I’m confused … “isekai before isekai”?
and 3 people liking him is a harem?

I really enjoyed it. I watched it about three years ago and was surprised it was just left as it was. I felt the same about Chivalry of a Failed Knight..knowing there is more story there and just being relegated to the light novels was sad. Enjoyed the reads though
I don’t remember much about it as it’s been a long time since i’ve watched it but i do remember liking it a lot back then, it was one of my first anime’s i’ve watched and i remember liking it enough to really want a third season

It's the ''magic school battle harem'' part, and yes, if there are more than 2 people liking the mc then it's a harem.
I would question that … but ok
