The Inter-High championship has commenced, and aside from the regular hitters, the Higashiyama twins are surprisingly doing well for their first time around.

That is until they face one rival school: Hojo High's Shoji Okazaki, whom Yokokawa and Yusa have faced in prior tournaments in the singles' category, only for the latter to trounce him yet again. The doubles' category is where the Higashiyama twins Taichi and Yoji really amp their game to only lose their footing against both Shoji and Tetsuya Arimura, for Yokokawa and Yusa to pick up their slack and win the individual doubles.

There's clearly something wrong within the twins, and this is where Taichi and Yoji's the most telling to distinctively differentiate them apart: Yoji's the mentally weaker, most pressured of the two, even back in their baseball days.

Once again, Hojo (Okazaki-Arimura) vs. Yokohama Minato (Taichi-Yoji) in team match doubles, and sadly it's the same story, even with motivation to keep up the pace for Yoji to focus and get back on his groove to support his twin brother Taichi.

The first-years with their first-ever competition, and lose or win, the experience they take back is substantial for improvements going forward with securing a spot for the Nationals. Here's hoping that the Nationals will be a different story for Yokohama Minato badminton team, starting with a practice match with multiple Inter-High champ school Saitama Futaba Academy before the next Inter-High.

The twins actually doing well in the beginning, until they face some pressure in front from those passionate opponents, which forcing one of the twin suffered a self-weakness trouble. I thought the other twin kinda hate the situation, but glad that he's not that dissatisfied and keep moving on cheers his twin with all of his might. Same with the others too, they got a synced support for the twins. Even though it's not ended well for them, because they were too late to flip the table. For the least they could do, were just moving on and let the match become a precious experience for a better future.

Lets hope the best for them too with the practices against the five times champs team on the next episode....

I didn’t watch badminton very often, but the rally, player movement and overall animating are really awful. Are the actions normal in badminton games?

Even if I am not that understand about the whole process, especially on anime industry in general, its honestly quite normal from studio that heavily conserve budget and time each episode. Especially since this kinda not the high priority anime. Cmiiw.

It feels like there's a lot more to this story, seeing as the MC didn't participate in this tournament.

I sincerely hope they can greatly improve the matches next time since the twins’ game felt lacking. Given their overall liveliness and silly nature, I expected a dynamic game from this episode.

While I’m well aware this isn’t Ryman’s Club, I can’t help but miss the chemistry of Tatsuru and Mikoto had in that original show. It helps that the official games in Ryman’s Club were generally good and well-paced. Honestly, I’m likely not alone in saying Love All Play could learn a thing or two - or even three - from the solid and smooth execution of Ryman’s Club.

The animation, script and directing really tanked this episode, even the panned stills were bad. For a tournament I really felt zero suspense.

This is late in a series to drop, but I was never that high on the show and what an absolute mess of an episode. No sense of the games and instead a lot of some random weirdo screaming. All while most of our cast sits around. Maybe asshole upperclassman wins a lot and the first years barely matter is realistic, but it's not very interesting. Certainly not with personalities this weak.

No real badminton is nothing like that
The real problem of the anime is, it doesn't tell you why person A win this rally against person B. Tactics is especially important for badminton games, it is not always about strength.

Firstly, in singles, among top players, what is decisive in the games is to keep up with opponent and consumer opponent's energy. One way to consume the opponent's energy is to have variety of shots, you hit clear to move opponents to the back of the court, and you use drop shot to land the shuttle at the net, making the opponent run to the front. It is really about hitting into space. The anime has no discussion of those, and I have a feeling the producer/scriptwriter of the anime has none/shallow understanding of badminton (as opposed to, lets say Haikyuu, where the author clearly knows how to explain how each rally is won)

Anyway, tactics is really important in badminton and this anime merely shows shots of like characters swinging rackets with full strength, which is not how badminton competitions are like...

This is very sad to see as Japan has some of the best players in the world (possibly the strongest team overall in the world) yet the national attention on the sport is visibly low

The twins are not all same, one can't stand against a mental attack. But the match ended with a great match.
