The official website of the Bastard!! Ankoku no Hakaishin Season 2 (ONA) (Bastard‼ Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy Season 2) original net anime announced two additional cast members on Tuesday. The anime is set to premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2023.

Bol Gil Bol: Takahiro Fujiwara (Berserk: Ougon Jidai-hen - Memorial Edition)

Zakk Walder: Tomohiro Yamaguchi (Tensei shitara Ken deshita)

Takaharu Ozaki (Goblin Slayer) is directing the original net anime at LIDENFILMS. Yousuke Kuroda (Boku no Hero Academia) is handling the series composition, and Sayaka Ono (Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo) is designing the characters. Yasuharu Takanashi (Tensei shitara Ken deshita) is composing the music.

The anime series adapts Kazushi Hagiwara's action adventure manga, which originally began as a one-shot in Weekly Shounen Jump in 1987 and began regular serialization the following year. The manga then ran in Weekly Shounen Jump's special quarterly edition between 1990 and 1996 and returned to the original magazine from 1997 to 2000. Ultra Jump began serializing the manga in 2001 and published the latest chapter in 2010 before the manga entered hiatus. Shueisha released the 27th volume in March 2012.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in July 2001 and released the first volume in August 2002. Following the release of the 19th volume in September 2009, the company discontinued its publication.

The anime's first part, consisting of the first 13 episodes, debuted on Netflix on June 30 worldwide. The second part featuring episodes 14-24 premiered on Netflix on September 15.

Hagiwara launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1988. The series has since had irregular serialization in the magazine and later in Ultra Jump starting in 2001. Shueisha published the manga's 27th compiled book volume in March 2012, and the series has over 30 million copies in circulation. Viz Media had released the manga in English, but stopped publishing the series with the 19th volume. The company cancelled its release of the 20th volume in English.

The manga inspired a six-episode original video anime (OVA) in 1992-1993. Geneon Entertainment (also known as Pioneer) released the anime on home video.
