In the last episode Milly Thompson was hinted to joined Meryl in her quest I guess to find Vash. To me its implying this season of Trigun Stampede is a prequel to the original anime. (I havent watch the originial anime completely, I only watched a bit of it when I was young). Can anyone clarify this.

Stampede is a standalone retelling of the Trigun manga. It takes things from the manga, and then creates new scenarios, characters, locations, etc that incorporate them. The manga, the 98 anime & Stampede are all separate continuities.

They are kind of right but not entirely.

Trigun Stampede is a [Trigun story prequel] but not a prequel to the previous anime. It leads up and ends in July Incident and that takes places before Manga/anime start. However after that story will be pretty different to anime and somewhat different (we dont know yet how much) to the manga.

Same goes for you.

Lost July takes place before the main story of the manga & 98 anime, whereas as Stampede takes place before it, but Stampede also has Lost July replace the 5th Moon Incident, which took place during the main story of the manga & 98 anime.

Nah it's not a prequel to original anime. This is a reboot of it, and is telling the story in a better way and focusing more on the lore of the series. This reboot is much better than the original.

Yeah everyone has been doing a great job clearing this up—

I thought for a second after finishing it that maybe they were building a new prelude or something to it, but Stampede is just a new standalone retelling that has both retold the story we all know while also implementing its own aspects into it. I enjoy how they've expanded on some of the lore and history of Vash and the world setting while also keeping the key components of the story the same.

The addition of Milly at the end was a nice touch and I appreciated how they made Meryl's journey of a 'newbie' into a hard boiled reporter more explored ✨💯 was a shame we didn't get to see Milly at all in the remake but also makes the dynamic the two will grow to have have more depth and I felt the inclusion of the assigned 'newbie' to Meryl after the events in Stampede was a nice way to pay respect to the OG anime and it's fans, personally ✌️

Lol everybody doing the most to say this isn’t a prequel, even though it totally is lol. It’s telling a slightly different changed version of the story, but it’s obvious what people mean and is not inaccurate to call it a prequel.

For Stampede to be called a prequel, there would have to be a series in front of it that it builds off of. Stampede is too different from both manga iterations and the '98 anime to fit this description.
