So I have a few theories and questions that I would like to ask before the series fades from my mind.(Unless a new season comes out or you really really recommend the series)
What happened to the original kingdom?
What are the highlanders? transformed fairies?
Where the goddess?
And who is the masked guy?

If nobody answers that's fine too.

Weird, No LN readers have answered the question after 2 hours~

I will answer OP’s questions then:
1) No idea. Likely fallen since centuries have passed.
2) Highlanders are group of people living on the floating islands known as Highlands. Don’t remember seeing people transforming into fairies in the LN. The closest I can think of is Liselotte growing wings on her back but that is due to the power of her artefact if I recall correctly.
3) Has not appeared after the prologue in Volume 1. I have only read until Volume 7. Not sure if she appears in Volume 8 or Volume 9.
4) A chad who leads the Steelbloods. Stronger than Inglis as he also used Aether, similar to Inglis.

I'm a LN reader so I'll answer your question with pleasure ^^

We have absolutely no idea XD The story didn't answer any of this questions yet in the 8 first volumes that are translated so far. Since Volume 9 starts a new storyline, maybe there will be answers in it, but I have no idea. One of the few things the LN have added so far (spoilers of course) :

What happened to the Kingdom :

Who's the Masked Guy ? His identity is still hidden.

I also recommend to read the Light Novel. Starting from there, the story continues to go darker and darker in each volume (still with a lot of humor, but the main story is no joke).
