Sci-fi movies with great visuals:

- Akira (1988): Famous for a reason: inspired thousands of future artists and animators.
- Redline (2009): Madhouse worked on this movie for 7 years and the visuals are insane as a result.

Sci-fi shows with great visuals:

- Space Dandy (2014): With the guiding hand of Shinichiro Watanabe of Bebop fame, a variety of artists get to direct their own episode, each experimenting with their own unique styles.
- Macross Plus (1995): The variety of set pieces allow for Plus to be not only a worthy spin-off successor to the original narratively, but arguably more visually inventive.
- FLCL (2001) A prime example of the animation that classic Gainax shows are known for (giant robots and pure insanity), while mixing in a variety of unique elements of its own (manga visuals, 3D camera). I haven’t seen Evangelion or Gurren Lagann yet (also Gainax) but they are also good recommendations for visuals.

Non space/mecha shows with great visuals:

- Great Pretender (2020): Studio Wit conceives yet another show with great eye candy and story.
- Serial Experiments Lain (1998): Watching this in the dead of night is pure gold, in the fuzzy state between awake and dreaming where the plot and imagery perfectly match that feeling.
- Little Witch Academia (2017): Maybe not as stand out or ground breaking as the others, but artistically colorful and fitting for the content, same studio as Kill la Kill (Trigger).

Hope this helps! Have a great day!

Plenty of good ones, I’ll just list off some off the top of my head:

TV:
- Cyberpunk Edgerunners
- Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
- Eighty Six

OVA:
- Gunbuster/Diebuster
- Samurai X Trust and Betrayal
- Gunsmith Cats

Movie:
- Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha (the two movie remakes)
- Sword of the Stranger
- Jin-Rou (more psychological but has solid action)
