The divine clans and their "spies" are definitely a talking point, as is the "Garden of the Gods", and that's where Koushi, Touko and Kanata are heading. Touko needing to get medicine for Shouzou, and sensing danger, goes in hiding, thanks to the treefolk leading them deep into the dark forest. But if there is anything to discount, the treefolk are the abandoned species against the divine clans. and want nothing out of exchange with the humans.

The extent of humans and gods lost to the fire, thus creating flame fiends, and the first fire hunter Tokohanahime definitely felt that people weren't as inclined into fire. From that point forward, the gods basically wrecked the living by giving up the fire to creatures, mainly the divine clans predicting that the world would end in a blaze. And it's in this condition that treefolk like Kiri can't allow giving medicine to Touko.

To make matters worse, a god appearing before them in the presence of the spies attacking them and Akira saving their skin, it was definitely a warning. Bringing Kanata back to Koushi is already a feat, and in exchange, Koushi giving her some bottled lightning, and Touko's journey is essentially done.

The world will still fall into chaos, just as the divine clans have predicted, and the Flickering Flame will be the god to rule the judgment of the world.

Is there any way to save the world at all, if it's destined for destruction?

Touko's journey comes to an end, but not before visiting the tree folk, or at least the failed experiments, who weren't able to offer any medicine, but there was some good lore told, around the first fire hunter Tokohanahime, and flame fiends. The spies continue to be an interesting part of the plot, and with a god appearing to save them, what does that mean? Is it a sign that they're angry and the world is in imbalance with the Flickering Flame angered? Many questions remain.

So far, I have more or less been enjoying the show, but I will say that it's starting to just not be doing enough for me in terms of intrigue, but we'll see what happens as we go along.

Everyone is a rockstar until Touko pulled the sickle

That God healing  Akira from far away was scary, because I thought the God was more a title than a thing.

You can have the sickle but the dog stay with me. I cried.

Hey look, an action scene that didn't suck for once, and the lore and build up keep being good. Also the departing here was a lot better than the reunion from last episode.

Good episode with world building development. The plot has finally a soaring pace and the introduction of the new characters very important for the lore. The most interesting episode and i think we are near to the end

The ending of the ending has changed! Now there's that satelite-thing instead of a comet in the sky. It was already hinted that the comet was some human-made spacecraft but now they revealed it fully, and it turns out to be some super laser weapon that can burn the whole world apparently. Reminded me of Icarus from 007 movie.

Pretty neat episode, I am really liking how everything that was slowly built up is coming together. This is shaping up to be such a hidden gem.

Loved the episode, but my brain was too slow to keep up with all that lore dump. I need Vaati to intervene

Yeah this episode was a lore dump. There was a part of the lore dump that got my attention and that where it was mentioned that humans created a pathogen that would make the lesser or undesirable humans combust and the intention was to have them all die off but that did not happen. Side note, the spider group that discovered that a bug bite prevents dying from natural flame reverses that effect and it confirms that it is viral (or bacterial).

Another interesting reveal is that the comet from the sky is a satellite so I wonder if it's a god or another human civilization that intends to use it to try to kill off the humans vulnerable to natural flame. In this anime gods apparently exist as shown by the one that healed Akira and also by the dragon that destroyed the trains from an earlier episode.

I imagine this is a world where these people like Touko live in an isolated land mass and there's another continent that has a more modem civilization, hence the satellite. I'm not sure what's going to happen but I'm very vested now.

I'm even finding the lore uninteresting at this point lol, we're finding out more and more details every episode, but I just can't seem to care. The story is a lot more orthodox than what I had hoped for.

So the series effects animator is back and it didn't look like shit for once. Felt like just another Fire hunter ep, the lore dumping was present since the 1st ep, so I'm used to it by now.

I, too, had trouble piecing things together. However, I don't think it was only due to the amount but also because it was a bit incoherent. They didn't give us all information and also started throwing a bunch of new nomenclature at us. At this point it's just hard to follow who did what because you are also busy trying to to remember who is who. If that makes sense... It was quite the departure from previous episodes in this regard. That being said, it might make more sense in future episodes but this episode on it's own didn't do a good job imho.

Honestly you articulated it the best way possible. I just didn't feel like arguing with the tryhards on this site about not fully understanding those last few scenes

Positives:
1. One fighting scene didn't look as bad as previous ones
2. Mystery revelation gives a new shape to the story

Negatives:
1. Exactly how they revealed that mystery was too simple. I mean Touko and Koushi didn't have to work hard. Just a simple conversation with some Treefolks
2. The mystery itself is simple. Apart from that presentation, the perfect way to describe it would be "nothing grand"

In short, it takes up the idea of Fire Force with lores like Shinsekai Yori but the mystery revelations quite couldn't make it equally impactful.

Little by little the story gets better, the art in the same way. It is very gratifying to find this type of true jewels among all the garbage of this first season of 2023.

We’re learning a lot about the history of this world. I’m sure the people who have read the source material know what all this is about, but for us anime onlys, we just have to wait and see.

goddamn, this is an amazing anime... favorite episode so far, trumping whichever other episode i had claimed was my favorite a few ago. the voice acting is superb, especially when touko and koushi didn't know what to do to protect themselves from en. the uncertain whimpers as touko unwrapped the fire hunter sickle. saying goodbye to kanata, the dog that she had grown attached to. i had seen this god character before on one of the novel's covers in passing but i did not expect him to arrive this early. if he was the one that healed akira's cheek slash, why had he done it, healing powers notwithstanding? then there are defective test experiments hidden away from public view... a reminder that the divine are not always successful. i recall a resemblance to gin iro no kami no agito, in that people there who accepted the forest's powers turned into tree people (or morphed into full on trees) and there were also forest 'druids'.

Hold up... Okay I'm making a bit of a prediction here. So we've been hearing about this divine clan this whole time without really know anything about them. Are they like super technologically advanced or something? The treefolk are their experiments? What the heck is going on in this show lol I have so many questions and I feel like I'm not going to get any answers, but am I understanding that right?

The divine clans need someone to give medicine to the humans in the villages, so they create treefolk experiments. The failed ones stay in the capital, while the successes go out to actually help the humans? Is that what's happening? Are the divine clan watching the humans almost like a spectator sport or something? What is happening lol

I honestly have such mixed feelings about this anime. The flickering flame looks like a space ship or something. What is skyfire? What is the divine clan? There are gods and goddesses that want to not let the flickering flame/space laser cannon not destroy the earth? I'm honestly so confused rn. Idk if it's because I'm not watching these all in one sitting and I'm just forgetting things but this feels so odd. I think I'm definitely going to rewatch this at some point because wow I honestly feel really confused

I like how Koushi reaction with Touko knowledge. Don't underestimate chibisuke experience while doing a very big adventure outside the capital, my dude.

I also like how the ed comet visual change into the satellite as soon as the capital treefolk Elder reveal the truth behind the flickering flame story. But yeah the story is not over yet since the comet still not yet to come and how its being use once again to destroy the whole world.

Then, finally the divine clans introductory. He's quite welcome tho by healing Akira scratch even though the spies kinda be annoying. But at what point he's still considerate to our main group? He must be had his reason.

Also yay to the train worker finally waken up and his first word coming out just complaining kekw classic. And i don't want to talk about Touko sadness after Kanata left her side. Chibisuke really had her share enough. So, whatever happens with Spider attack Capital lore, hope its turns out well...

And just how do you stop a falling satellite in this world?
