it would be easy to fill in the blanks but i dont know why you would want to watch the film without watching the main series. its a direct continuation

If you want romance just watch the film. There are some details that shows love in the series but i would suggest you to watch the movie.

absolutely you must not skip the show for any reason it is essential viewing and watching the movie without the show would be pointless because the movie pays off the character narratives setup in the series and watching the conclusion without the setup would be meaningless.

honestly the people that say if you want the romance then watch the movie why would you say that. like the romance in the movie is better after the series because you get familiar with the characters. instead of just watching 2 people you barely know fall in love

There is a recurring song in the movie, the story of that song is in the series, it is a very important story for both the series and the movie.

a story should be watched as a story as a whole... not just the good/better parts of it otherwise you won't ever get the whole feel

You will understand the movie better if you watch this. But there is a lack of romance in the series as compared to the movie.

Yea I would highly recommend to watch the series first before the movie because it’ll give you a better understanding of the characters even thought it’s just a wholesome slice of life it still has some character
So when you watch the movie you’ll get a better feel of the romance and struggle that the characters go through

I cried during the movie cuz I just felt like I related to mochizou

So yeah I recommend you watch the series first

Would be smart to watch it, all the buildup to the romance in the film has it’s foundations laid by the character interactions in the series.
