With the animation getting rougher and rougher, and a preliminary google search bringing up nothing about it, has their been any work to translate the novels into english? Either fan, or official? Cause as many will attest, the story and world is the draw of this show, so I'd love to experience those parts without the disappointed thoughts of "what could have been?" whenever anything more visually complicated than standing and talking happens

No. There's no any translation of this novel.
And we won't get any while "not recommended" reviews are winning. This novel is children's literature. Most readers and translators don't like it.
