Same reason how they offer couple discounts. Looks like they really want guys and girls to get together so that their population might increase. Friends and family be damned.
Best ending line in anime history = "My name is Saiki Kusuo. I am a psychic."

But why only applies to "only guys" but not "only girls"?

Technically the message bars only boys without a girl companion. Having atleast 1 girl seems to be the ticket to that studio. So 2 girls are still permitted!

It's probably to avoid boys harassing or taking pictures of any girls already there or that show up later, especially if they're changing into costumes. Presumably if they go together with a girl then they're less likely to do that sort of thing.

Or it's just there for the characters own development such as how they went into the women's bathroom... Main character even talks about how now they can go into only females areas, most likely nothing more than introducing how the character is adapting and getting used to change.

These photo booths in Japan are made for womens , they have all types of Filters and Stickers and they make you look cute , even if they allowed Men's it's not like they will gonna use those filters.
And with a girl or girlfriend you probably gonna Use something right?
And anyway think about it , Will you even wanna go with your friend to a booth to take a picture and then put all types of Filters and stuff.
Well it's different if you wanna look cute or something ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…
Also it's to protect Only Girls customers.

I doubt facial structures between men and women differ to the point that the filter decides to crap the bed. And even if the filter doesn’t work, why should they bar the male customers from using it? It’s not like they HAVE to use filters.

And if men as a whole decide not to use it because the booth is too feminine, then there’s no reason for that rule since men won’t go anyway. But that’s not how reality normally works, plenty of dudes may want to go in and use the filter.

You’re kinda treating the entirety of men as a singular being. Different men have different preferences, some may actually want to look cute yk. A little unfair to bar off the entire gender cause most men wouldn’t really want to use it. And let’s say there’s a dude who may not actually be into that kind of stuff, plenty of dudes (myself included) would go in just for the trolls. Like gambling with your friend and making the loser go in and take a pic in order to laugh at how goofy they look.

It is intended to create a safe space for women/ girls to enjoy without the worry of potentially concerning situations/ guys hanging out trying to hit on them, etc. It isn't some sort of sexist approach, just something to make people feel more comfortable in those areas and to actually enjoy the activities.

Cuz girls rule and boys drool, obviously :P

Jokes aside I looked it up because I’m actually quite interested to know myself. The rule was rightfully put in place to protect women, who make up a large percentage of the clientele for these photo booths.

I found this article:
The Ultimate Guide to Purikura Japanese Photo Booths
https://www.jrpass.com/blog/say-cheese-the-ultimate-guide-to-purikura-japanese-photo-booths

Firstly, men are sometimes not allowed into purikura centers on their own. This rule was put in place to protect the almost 100% female clientele from potential creeps. Very unfortunate for the nice guys out there who just want a cute photo.

Secondly, locals take these photo shoots very seriously. Usually, they’ll arrive in their coolest outfits, makeup on point, fresh from the nearest mirror. Some designated purikura venues even have their own bathrooms and makeup rooms complete with hair straighteners for pre-shoot touchups. Feel free to go in and experience the backstage at a fashion show. These rooms are also handy if you have multiple outfits or rented one of the venue’s free costumes.

maybe it's just to add to the joke then? who knows, this isn't really a thing in real life so anyone complaining about this is silly.

Please ignore my replies, I was incorrect. one user on this discussion sent an article that states why this is apparent, I'd suggest you read it to know why ^^
tldr for the article: It's to stop men from harassing women (it's pretty common in Japan)

Kinda sad that an issue like that was so problematic and large that they had to ban all dudes. Just a couple of fucked up assholes really ruined it for everybody.
