Damn, Wisteria seems so fragile for a character. One of the adults really mistreats her...

It only took a few minutes for her to meet with Marbas in this show, almost like fate. Compared to Wisteria, he's much stronger and confident. Wisteria herself seems like a kind girl but she definitely needs someone to watch out for her. The balance between her and Marba's personality should be interesting to watch for more episodes.

This one stands out being one of the low-key unique shows of the season.

The relationship between the human girl Wisteria and demon Marbas, gives me Mahoutsukai no Yome vibes of Chise and Elias (while we wait for Season 2 next season). In a world where demons can't be seen, and the girl was like Little Red Riding Hood that she somehow can see demons but being sufferable akin to a slave, that's when he decides to meet her every night to tell her of his stories. Marbas is easily Wisteria's salvation and her way of survival.

But the priest holding orphans like her as other ideas: selling her off to proficient customers, as such with a lord that derives his enjoyment through tormenting brats like Wisteria. This is how Wisteria's brother was tormented the same way, and the girl pleads for Marbas to take her soul, which he can't, and it would be a rule violation of the demons. As such, the trade goes per normal, and Marbas took things on his own accord to get Wisteria back in his human form, though he can't keep it for long due to the quick disintegration as a result of going against the rule. And for this, Wisteria, granting her eyes to Marbas as a contract for selling her soul to him, it was a benefit for both on their own travels.

Wisteria's brother Snow with his aide Takenami of the Sword Cross Knights hunting down demons, and while Marbas being one of the Thirteen Calamities is for one, it would take a journey's worth to travel in a ruthless London.

A really good premiere episode, it's intriguing enough to keep tabs on it.

So did she give up her eyesight to make the pact? But wasn't it her eyesight which brought them together to begin with???

Yeah idk about this one. We'll see what happens over the next few episodes.

Good thing they made a pact right there and then, not sure why they didn't make one beforehand and Marbas could've taken her. The reaper guy also mentioned Marbas is one of the thirteen calamities so I guess he is an important demon.

Basic anime orphan being mistreated.

Now I wonder if was necessary to Wisteria lose her eyesight to make a pact? I want a minimum requirement, like, simply couldn't use an eye for the pact and Wisteria could still see and have an eyepatch?

Whew, off to an incredible start this season, loved this opener.

Great music, animation, and beautiful storytelling. The despicable, easy-to-hate characters were so well balanced with the two noble, yet very different/essentially opposed heroes. Love it. Really looking forward to how this one is developed.

yeah like Ancient Magus Bride. Wow, That was waaaay better than I thought it'd be. Surprised people are dogging it with a 6 review. Also love that her name is Wisteria and his VA is Tengen from Demon Slayer.

A fine start I would say. Well, apart from the rich aristocrat. That guy was sickening.

Also, it's sad that Wisteria had to lose her eyes in the end.

The first episode of Nokemono-tachi no Yoru was pretty good. I was a bit confused about the voice actor of Pod and thought it was Hayami Sho but then I found out that voice actor Hiroki Yasumoto is POD 042.

Looking forward to the next episode.

Lets gooo ancient ma… nvm lmao. Just my seasonal dose of problematic ships. Really wasn’t expecting this one to pull me in like this. Could be a hidden gem of the season. Really sad twist of fate that wisteria had to give up her eyesight tho right before her brother comes to look for her.. I wonder how that’ll work out

Woah that escalated pretty fast at the end there with the pact. Not bad for a first ep, let's see how it will develop.
I guess that brother is gonna have a big misunderstanding for quite a while about Marbas.

All this time you'd think Snow would have found Wisteria before she was sold.  He must not have requested help from his organization.  If they can find demons, they should've been able to find a silver haired little girl. Marbas doesn't seem interested in telling Wisteria he saw her brother.  He has to know that's him.

That's the whole point - her eyes let her meet him so they're something precious that he can take other than her soul.

As expected, people are already trashing this. Oh well. As a fan of the series in its manga form, it wasn’t a bad start. Animation is not the greatest and doesn’t do the manga art the justice, but it’s not the worst. There is no romance in the story as far as I am aware - Marbas is more like a father/partner to Wisterie than anything else. We’ll see how far they get into the story, but expect a lot of action later on, as well as demon hierarchy and lore. Wisteria is also fine without her eyesight, it’s one of the more unique things about series with MC being blind.

OMGEE why did Wisteria have to be blind? little hoping that's temporary...she already didn't have a good starting life and then this? hmmm is this show supposed to let us pity her?

I love this show and actually think the art is beautiful. I think it will be one of the underdogs of the season. I had honestly forgotten this anime was going to start until I saw it on the streaming site I use. Glad I decided to check it out.

I feel the same way, the way that it's set up makes Snow as well as the Marbas seem like sucky characters.
Granted Marbas redeemed himself in the end, but in a really stupid way. If he really valued her that much he could have found another way to help her earlier.
I hope Marbas will at least tell her that he likely met her brother.

Only one episode and i am already pretty disappointed in the main characters, i don't think i'll continue watching it.

yeah, tbh the author bring the unique story, but with starting plot like this, it made me disappointed, gonna look up for another 2 episodes and see if it can cover the bad starting plot or not

Hmm...so Marbas, who was seriously contemplating no longer existing bc he was so bored, could have achieved that very thing by saving Wisteria sans pact. We're just supposed to ignore that, I guess; especially since the first episode, not to mention the entire series, would have been over in less than 15 minutes.

I do find it hard to believe that the writers couldn't easily have found a better way in which to set up their relationship, but whatever.

A very dramatic beginning. A nice history lesson about the way poor people were treated in the past. Showing Marbas suffering from not making a pact reinforced the fact that demons, in this world, are truly evil by nature.
though the after-credit scene wasted a lot of dramatic tension.

Another hidden gem like "The Magu's Bride", this story is so endearing... and sweet...

I'm looking forward for more.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Wow. A lot was covered in this first episode. It kind of felt a bit rushed but such is the limitation of anime sometimes.

The premise itself is pretty interesting. Wasn't expecting Wisteria to have to actually give up something useful so that's an interesting dynamic.

I know I'm going to get called a furry for liking this but so far I do. Lots of promise for this one, I hope it stays interesting.

Oof Wisteria going full Stockholm syndrome.
What's with this non-charity slavetrading church?
Digging the beauty & beast setup with nice London scenery.
Both Marbas versions are cool. Despite their very different lives, the pair got great chemistry.
Surprised never saw any ads for this. One of the more tragic & amazing premieres, maybe dark horse contender with just 19k members.
