I personally have no interest in playing Arknights, but I've been really enjoying Prelude to Dawn so far! Does anybody know where this might take place in the timeline, and if so, if new fans to the world can still understand it? The PV looked really interesting, and the art style is very pretty. It would be a shame if I wouldn't know what's going on if I gave it a shot.

I would still be willing to watch it if there was just a gap between this and the season currently airing (I could, like, look up a recap or something of the game's story to prep). I just wanna know how out of my depth I'd be if I went into this with only the anime under my belt.

I don’t know if this will have a considerable impact on the plot. This seems like a lighthearted story of this detective sgency in Lungmen. We’ll probably get some lore about lungmen, the people living in it, or maybe Yan (the country) as a whole. But I don’t think any knowledge from game is that important.

as far as we know, this should be good to watch for anyone coming into Arknights, regardless of if you've watched Prelude to Dawn. mostly different cast (most of whom do not even appear in the main storyline, or only appear for a short time), different plot, just with the same setting

A hard yes and a soft no. You can watch this even if you only watched the prelude to dawn, Tho it has no relation whatsoever the world is still the same. Basically the chars who will appear here are a faction in the game and its a show about them

Based on the trailers they don't show any Reunion roaming Lungmen, and the assumed threat being a Mafia gang instead (assumed because maybe a different threat each ep? Idk?)...I think it should be safe to watch since it's a different faction in Lungmen and their adventure/mysteries.

Yes. Lee's Detective Agency is a different show that is not related to Prelude to Dawn, but have many connection, especially Lungmen. Y'all are free to watch this without playing the game itself (even in-game we don't have this kind of story,). Just take note on their racial figures and infection statuses.

I doubt you will even need to watch Prelude for this, the only storylines that Lee's Detective Agency is connected to takes place about 3 years+ after the main plot and a crossover
at most there will be some minor references unless they pull in some major Lungman characters like Wei, Ch'en or the Rat King

Don't see why it wouldn't be. I just think it's the antics of the cute furries and scalies from Lungmen.

There's no such thing as a "man of culture", you are a COOMER.
Go outside.

It takes place in Lungmen, the same city from episodes 4-8 of Prelude to Dawn but I have to imagine there's very little overlap. LDA features an original story not from the game but based on characters who show up in some side stories. Prelude to Dawn adapts the main story of the game very closely.

You'll almost certainly see the Lungmen Police Department at some point but we're unlikely to run into Ch'en or her special defense squad. We are also pretty unlikely to run into that many infected so we won't see Reunion.

All in all, I wouldn't worry about it. It's a comedy series that will include a few references and in-jokes for players but don't worry about lore stuff.
