| This was one of the best shonen jump chapters I've read in a long time. Not only does the emergence of genius lucky signify a giant shift in the main premise of the story, but it also recontextualizes everything that's happened before: the author has been slowly and subtly building up the narrative that Lucky's attitude about kindness is a thin veneer that has been mistaken by both lucky, other characters, and the readers to be a grand ambition. To demonstrate the weakness of kind acts, in a medium that constantly uses kindness as the ultimate trope, is a highly impressive and interesting feat that I think it currently being underappreciated by jump fans. Lucky is beginning to remind me of Holden Caulfield--one of the more influential characters in literary history. |
