I wanted to make this post to let viewers of this new season know that the browser game from 2013 still exists, has at least monthly updates, events, and even has a fan-made full english patch you can install right now!
Check out this link for instructions on how to register on the game and install everything you need to get the game in english and play in good conditions!

Thanks for the tutorial, definitely helpful. Though, I followed the Android instructions and got as far as step 6, but it crashes with a network error whenever I try to select a Homeport server. Any ideas?

By step 6, you should have already selected a server, but through your usual browser instead of GotoBrowser. I think you can also do it through GotoBrowser, but make sure your timezone is set to Japan, this is not optional. Did you skip steps 3 to 5? You can only skip those if you already got into a server and made it through the early tutorial beforehand.
Last thing, and it goes for anybody who has any question about the installation or the game: join my Discord (https://discord.gg/krMeMKB) and ask your question in the #help channel there. I'll be able to answer much more quickly, as I'm usually not very active on MAL. Although, if you're fine with waiting a bit for an answer and/or don't wanna use Discord, it's fine to post there, sure, but Discord would really be better for extended help.

The timezone thing turned out to be the issue, I was able to make it through those steps before it actually stopped me. Thanks again for posting this, works fine now~

I played a ton back in 15/16. I still see updates from their Twitter regularly. I remember talks about the patch in certain groups but good to know that the English patches became a full thing

I played the game for years after the 1st anime. I gave up, there was nobody else in my friend group who wanted to play it.
the new designs looked less exciting and the events became just more annoying to finish. more mechanics, more maps, more demand for high end equipment.

I will probably start playing it more since I got into Seirei Gensouki: Another Tale which is also a browser game (albeit a money machine to power up).

It changed my perspective a bit on the quality of browser games.

Same here, I have played this game for around three years and promptly gave up. The game design is outdated and extremely time consuming, you need to spend hours and hours to farm for materials and face a lot of frustration when dealing with events.

I love the interesting character designs and the history behind it, (hell, even my mal profile picture is from kancolle), but the recklessness of the developers have made me drift away from the game. Honestly, I don’t recommend this game to anyone.

The arcade version, however, is very fun. I wish they could have ported it to PC.

same, it always blew my mind how they managed to sneak history and visual cues into their personalities and design work.
it's a level of care that other gatcha devs won't even bother to imitate. it's partially why I never tried any ripoffs.
agreed with the arcade game too!

Looking at my KC3 that I still update out of habbit even tho I have not played the game for a good 3 years.
Other collection style games just have better mechanics.
the fact that perma death is still a thin is mind boggling to me.
that and the ever decreasing numbers of events I hope the best for the game but I would be surprised if the servers would still be up for another 3 years.

kancolle mostly relies on visual memory, just pretend those kanji as symbols so I can recognize some items and shipgirls names in kanji

next year gonna be kancolle 10th anniversary, I just hope they release an offline game before they shutting down (but this wont be shutting down soon, since its still popular in japan) releasing this internationally definitely wont works well since moe and cute stuff era already passes and main maps criticized by some western "journalist" as historical revisionist
