Hey everyone welcome to Holo Interviews! I'm your host HoloisHolo, and today we are at Holo's Bar and Grill for a live show of Holo Interviews! Be sure to check out our drink specials, we have a new cocktail called The WiseWolf. Today our guest is a hero of our Special Holoist Mission who fought valiantly in the liberating and freeing of the people of Myuria against the tyrannical rule of Myuri. Please welcome esuohdaM!
Hey y'all, it's Mad here. Well, I'm quite a dedicated person and I mean REALLY dedicated - I'm going absolutely insane about things I'm passionate about. My character can be described as "walking paradox" since I possess a plenty of positive personal qualities and antonyms of those qualities at the same time, so when for some I might be the most pleasant person to speak to, for all the others I'm kind of a filthy worm possessed with devil, and that's quite enough to hold a mile-long distance lol
What is it about Holo that drew you to her and that you love?
All the roads lead to Holo. Here in CIS Spice and Wolf is a cult anime, which everyone loves and would immediately recommend for a particular reason: the voice acting. Back in the days, when companies actually tried to fight the anime piracy with the help of quality and not lawsuits, the dubbing studio Reanimedia became an order to dub Spice and Wolf. Pure enthusiasm and power of capitalism worked very well together, and the series was successfully finished with absolutely marvellous voice acting, which is arguably even better than original. Just take a look at OP:
Can you pull that up for us Klefki, thanks
I wish anime was more popular in CIS, cause it's one of the very few professional anime dubs that made it to the shelf. About Holo in particular: she's really charming and playful, kind of naughty yet soft, self-aware and kawaii. We really need more characters like her since the anime industry is filled with absolutely garbage one-dimensional seasonal waifus. Get rid of them, now!
You heard him folks, it's HOLO AND ONLY HOLO! HOLO! HOLO! HOLO!
Alright, now, how did you get into anime and manga?
Anime, huh? I remember first encountering it somewhere in Summer 2015, when a classmate of mine kept going on and on about the Hueco Mundo arc in Bleach and how many fillers had he seen, but I the only thought in my head was like "Wtf is this alien language he's talking to me?" However the next year he DID convince me to actually watch something, so my first anime was Death Note in 2016. I remember being quite satisfied with it, but it hasn't ignited a spark in me back then. I made some more attempts, introducing a weird tradition of watching anime every Christmas holidays (don't even ask) and managed to finish some more entries like NGNL, both seasons of Noragami, Hentai Prince to Warawanai Neko(why?) in literally TWO YEARS, but somehow in late 2018 I discovered the "Styx Helix" theme from Re:Zero and decided to give it a try and oh boy - I finally got drawn into the culture.
With manga it's rather simple - I was tired of waiting for news about the last arc in Bleach, so my bet was just to go and read manga to the end. The arc was such a lackluster anyways.
That's great, and yes! The Styx Helix Re Zero ending is awesome as fuck!
What kind of music are you into in general, and do you have any favorite Anime OST's?
Concerning music I can't really come up with something interesting. I enjoy rap and horror-core, so basically Kendrick Lamar and The Twiztid, metal of Powerwolf and musical comedy of Bo Burnham.
However there's some shit you definitely need to check out:
Moreover, I absolutely adore some orchestra pieces accompanied by chorus, so one day I even skipped some time of school just to visit the church in order to listen to music. I usually don't really care about anime OSTs, but I've saved some in my playlist:
1. Kara no Kyoukai's first intro
2. Haganai's Kodaka doesn't notice, but
3. Re:Zero's Styx Helix(one more time)
4. Gintama's Madao theme
I won't even try to list my favourite openings because there are simply too many of them to choose from
You can definitely feel the emotions in those songs.
What are some of your favorite shows and characters/waifus?
Well, I've got tons of things I adore, but I'll mention five names for each category, differentiating waifus and characters, if you don't mind.
Top-5 anime:
Steins;Gate (Literally a perfect version of Re:Zero)
Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Hands down the best romcom of last decade)
Ping Pong the Animation (The only worthy sports anime in my eyes. Probably because it isn't actually about sports lol)
Perfect Blue (The most well-crafted and witty movie and a creation of holy Satoshi Kon)
Gintama (for being something more than just another shonen)
Top-5 waifus:
1. Rin Toosaka
2. Makise Kurisu
3. Kurumi Tokisaki
4. Holo
5. Eru Chitanda
Which anime or manga do you feel is very overrated? And also one that is very underrated?
Concerning anime I honestly can name several dozens of shows from top-100. But the most obvious would be:
- Literally every hyped seasonal anime (Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, My Dress-up Darling, Komi-san, Mushoku Tensei, Spy x Family and etc.)
- "Beloved by everyone" type of anime like Attack on Titan, Hunter x Hunter, Your Name, GTO, Howl's Moving Castle, Erased and some others
- Neon Genesis Evangelion(+Rebuilds). I still can't believe that people DID swallow those excuses for cashgrab namely labelled as "Rebuilds", created by Anno. Don't get me wrong, I personally enjoyed every episode of NGE, but it's gone too far my guys.
I haven't really got a huge manga reading experience, but from my point of view One Piece, My Hero Academia, Aku no Hana, Chainsaw Man, Solo Leveling and Grand Blue are quite overrated.
For underrated anime I'd probably mention Kara no Kyoukai, Kaminomi, Kokoro Connect and maybe Tokyo Godfathers.
For underrated manga my choice is definitely Tsukihime, Nazo no Kanojo and Prison School.
Ooo, lot of ooo's from the crowd. Haha. But your underrated anime and manga are definitely excellent choices. How do you feel when watching an anime in which you read or are reading the manga or LN for it?
I've got such an experience only twice, since I don't really bother watching something if I've already read the manga and vice versa. The first experience was with Puella Magi Madoka Magica, because for an unknown reason I decided to read a manga for ANIME ORIGINAL series. So yeah, manga was quite nice, but people around kept going on about anime being better, so I managed to take a look at anime itself and oh boy the animation quality delivered by Shaft and all the soundtracks were so god damn fantastic that I've immediately given it a 9. The second experience was with Mirai Nikki. I'm dumbfounded what was I thinking about, but I bought myself three volumes of manga after watching anime, and while reading I've experienced some kind of bad trip due to pictures moving right in front of my eyes. I wasn't drunk I swear!
LOL, well we here aren't gonna judge you for buying Mirai Nikki or seeing pictures move in front of you, but it's ok you can be honest with us if you were drunk XD
Outside of anime, what other interests do you have and like to do for fun?
I'm a naturally curious person, so I discover new hobbies almost every year. In my free time I prefer reading books or watching movies or stand-up, playing board games with my family or going for a walk in the park to breath some fresh air, playing computer games or debating with my fellows in Discord, writing poems or doing sports while listening to some grime in my 10$ JBL headphones.
That's pretty wholesome actually. Sounds like a slice of life anime.
What is the meaning behind your username esuohdaM?
My Nickname is "Madhouse" backwards, and it's rather complicated due to double reference behind it:
1. There are not so many really talented authors over there, who can masterfully tell a story without over complicating things or using hundreds of pages to describe something trivial while damaging the story itself. And in this in mind my appreciation goes to Ken Kesey and his "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" novel. I liked it so bad that I wanted to create a new nickname to be connected to this piece of art. "Intensive therapy section" didn't sound good, so Madhouse was the choice.
2. Why exactly backwards? Zarathustra once said: "There are some people, who are being isolated from society due to their insanity, and there are people, who isolate society from themselves for the same reason." So yeah, try to find the answer yourself.
That's really cool, an interesting perspective on how one sees the world.
If you could live in the world of an anime you've seen or manga you've read, which would it be and why?
I would never choose something like Drifters or Fate because I would die like the next minute after my warp, so I'd probably find myself something cozy and gentle, like Doraemon for example. At the end of the day isn't some friends, some games and some happiness the thing that we want the most?
Yes it is, yes it is.
And to close out our show, anything you would like to say to our audience and the people at home?
So, this is it guys. Ugh, stay safe and healthy, don't vote for socialists, drink milk and watch anime - it's worth it. All hail to Holo!
