Did Blade Runner influence this film at all? I know this movie served as inspiration for the Matrix movies but I was wondering.

I saw the Final Cut of Blade Runner before this however, and GitS heavily reminded me of it; for example the discussion about memories were similar in both. The term replicant was even used in the sub translation as I was watching this, for me at least.

Does anyone know if there is a clear connection?

I don’t know if there is a clear connection but it’s pretty much stated by everyone that basically all cyberpunks are influenced by Blade Runner and Akira.

I think Mamoru Oshii has stated that Ridley Scott is one of his favorite filmakers and Blade Runner had a huge impact in Japanese pop culture of the 80s and 90s so it's safe to assume that it did.

Definitely. Maybe not the themes but the aesthetic is reminiscent of Blade Runner.

As a huge Ghost in the Shell fan I can say yes absolutely. Masamune Shirow the orginal mangaka and Mamoru Oshii the film's director were inspired by BladeCenter. Not too suprising since I inspired the look and feel of the Cyberpunk genre as a whole. There is also a Japanese book called Ghost in the Machine that inspired the creators as well.

I've never finished Blade Runner, but as much as I've seen, it's pretty similar to GitS in terms of philosophy and genre. So, I would say yes.

Blade runner and GitS have so many similarities to say that it didn't. I love both movies and seeing something similar was great experience.
