Do your kids watch anime? If they're not old enough yet; are you going to introduce them to anime someday or let them find out about it themselves?

If your kids already watch anime, what are they watching?

I'll probably introduce my kids to anime when they're old enough.

Mine does! She has cousins around her same age, and they do too.

All of them watch Pokemon. A few of them have seen Sailor Moon. I'm currently watching Sailor Moon with my daughter. She also wants to see Aria, and I might let her watch Granblue Fantasy too, depending on what I determine about the violence.

The first anime she watched was Chi's Sweet Home. She loved that one. She made my husband read the manga to her every night before bed, too. Hehe.

My kid is seven. He's sort of been introduced to it in some ways...he has friends who are into Pokemon so he has some understanding of that. He was into Bakugan as toys, so he watched a few episodes of that.

I think he's "intrigued" by Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, insofar as I've busted him leafing through my manga and he'll quickly put it down or act like I didn't see him. I think he's also recognizing the opposite sex for maybe the first time, so I'm sure that's part of it.

But no, we haven't watched together any of the anime I watch. I think he's curious, but also seems to think it's a bit weird I'm into it (could be my trash taste, haha). I'm most often into stuff with female leads, and not a lot of action/violence, etc., so that might seem "girly."

Both of my children have been anime fans for about 7 years, but it usually takes a backseat to their other interests.

My daughter (adult) likes YuGiOh!, Toradora!, The Ancient Magus' Bride, and Space Patrol Luluco.

My son (high school) likes One Piece, The Seven Deadly Sins, and any isekai where the MC is insanely OP (which is most of them I suppose).

Of the anime mentioned by others in this thread so far...

  • Pokemon: son likes the anime (we all liked Detective Pikachu for what that's worth)
  • Sailor Moon: was my intro to anime long ago but neither of them have any interest
  • Chi's Sweet Home: daughter watched the first 6 episodes with me and enjoyed it
  • Bakugan: son watched a couple episodes but wasn't into it
  • Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: neither have shown any interest

About the only anime that we all three enjoy watching together is Demon Slayer, but I'm going to introduce them to Spy X Family soon which I think they'll both enjoy.

Oh wow! So you're like an adult adult.

When did you start watching anime if you don't mind me asking? How did you get into it?

Yeah, I've been 'adulting' for a long time.

My initial introduction to anime was around 1979 when I watched the dubbed Speed Racer reruns, but I just thought it was another cartoon.

I became a fan in the mid-to-late 90s... Sailor Moon was the initial catalyst as it was on tv when I got home from work, but everything else I needed to find online until YuGiOh! years later.

Then life got crazy busy for several years and I gave up lesser important things like TV. When things settled down some around 2007, I started watching anime online again and saw how much better it had gotten (Gintama, Fate/Stay Night, Death Note, etc.) and I've been hooked since. :)

That's so cool, we actually became fans (so to speak) of anime the same way. I used to enjoy watching Sailor Moon with my sister in the 90s, though I went away from it (partly shamed/was afraid of what others would think, partly just had other interests) really up until this year where I've started finally going all in on anime.

I'm going to have to message you my anime embarrassment moment (involving mentioning I was a Sailor Moon fan at a business meeting) when I get a chance. *blush*

So I don't feel bad about bringing the discussion off-topic though...
In addition to the aforementioned Sailor Moon, Chi's Sweet Home, YuGiOh!, and Pokemon, here are some other anime that come to mind that kids & parents may enjoy together:

How to Keep a Mummy
Squid Girl
Cardcaptor Sakura
One Punch Man
Toradora
Gamers
Laid-Back Camp
A Place Further Than The Universe
