Okay let start off with the first part. No you do NOT have to have watched the first series to understand this one.

That being said this is clearly a sequel. Hell in the very episode we say them telling the story of the first series, seeing the secretary from the first season become the president, in the opening we clearly see older characters reappearing later.

But I'll probably get, "oh but it has a new set of casts". Yeah so does Gundam to Zeta to ZZ etc.

in short yes a sequel but no you can go in blind without knowledge of the previous one. similar things happen in video game sequels nowadays too .

What is it a sequel to?

Came here to talk about this too.

Cause I didn't finish watching Shadowverse, LOL, stopped at episode 38.

But I looked at the summary for this one and it said there's a new dude.

So I figure it might be like either Yu-Gi-Oh or Digimon where the game and most settings remains the same but has their own story.

___ ___ ___

Watched episode 1, and they clearly mentioned the "Woe" from "3 years ago" that was Shadowverse (s1) plot.

So it looked like this series is indeed a sequel, as they'll probably mention more things from "season 1".

It's basically similar to Digimon's season 1 and season 2 (adventure 02), where the story in that was directly connected to each other but with different main characters.

Which means the series can be watched solo (they also explained the game mechanics again in ep 2), but there will be some references to season 1, meaning ppls that haven't watched season 1 will be spoiled on it from watching this series.

As further proof this is a sequel, we just saw Luca and Alice grown up a bit in ep 8

I laughed when I saw Alice. even when she's grown up a little, she still look as Loli as ever, LOL.

Tho I think it's cause her hair is very puffy compared to the talkshow girl on the right when they were doing the TV interview.

Her puffy hair makes it so Alice look smaller than she actually is.

aka the "head scale" (to make Chibi characters)

___ ___ ___

With this info tho... I wonder where and what the other "main characters" of "season 1" are doing...
