On the one hand, everyone says it's a really good anime with well written characters and relationship. Also, wholesome is good too.
On the other, it's a SoL, and I can barely stand the genre, preferring something more like shounen - I'm sort of an escapist, and ordinary life depictions just remind me of my own issues.

Should I try to force myself?

it's cute, but it truly is a slice of life™

well, it's nice to get an explicit mlm couple and it is a good romance imo, plus it's a short anime, so you might as well give it a shot

You can take your time watching the first few episodes to see if the show works, and if it doesn’t you can drop it and check out the other offerings in the BL genre.

I mean it is trully a slice of life anime, not gonna lie, and the pacing is really slow. I recommend you to watch the first episode and see if you enjoy the pacing (cuz it's pretty consistent throughout the season). Plot wise, if you like typical highschool romance anime, you'll like this

Unfortunately, that's another genre I really do not like and never found relatable.

Oh, well, alas. I'll try it anyway, yes, but so far it doesn't sound good.

I think this series is pretty escapist for something that is about real life issues. It doesn’t get dark whatsoever.

It’s quite fluffy and cute, but at the the same time a little boring and cringe… It’s basically the equivalent of all these shojo highschool anime but with a m/m relationship. Not sure you will like it…

Oh no haha that's like all of your dislikes combined. If that's the case for you, then please don't put too much expectation. No pressure on liking it ^^

If you haven't, please watch Given. Also features M/M romance explicitly but the characters are a lot more fleshed out and don't feel like generic archetypes. I did enjoy Sasaki to Miyano, and in terms of M/M or BL anime it is my #2 currently behind Given. And also that's a low bar because every other BL anime I've seen besides those two has some serious issues of fetishizing and non-consent, which... Ugh.

I absolutely adore it. But I don’t think you should ever force yourself to watch something. Like the others have said, it’s definitely SoL.

I enjoyed the show. I love romance and slow burn is really cute to me. but the thing I love a lot about this show is that it's basically making fun of the bl genre in general. In the first half it'll teach its viewer on the bl cliches and then destroy them in the second half. the show is knowingly dissecting itself and it works out good.

I saw some people mention Given. Given is a lot different from Sasaki to Miyano. It teaches you real life issues with characters dealing with depression and suicide. it also touches up on how to deal with loosing someone important to you and moving on. it's really lovely. Plus it's non toxic and soft (only one kiss scene in the first season) I would try it if you could.

Banana fish is another good one. Despite the main leads being romantically involved the relationship isn't the main focus of the show. the show is really gritty and deals with topics such as (rape, pedophilia, human trafficking, suicide, depression, gangs, and drugs) if that stuff makes you feel uncomfortable then I wouldn't watch it. It doesn't explicitly show this stuff but it's very heavily implied it goes on. The one thing I love about this show is that it shows a point of view of a male abuse victim, they're rarely shown in media and usually ridiculed (at least here in america) so it was interesting to see trauma from a male perspective.

sorry I rambled a lot I hope this helped. !!

As a shojo anime with dicks have 8/10 as BL story have 6/10.

I think 7/10 it will be ok.

No it's not worth it. Or maybe just the 1st and last episodes.

Banana Fish is not a BL show and the relationship between the two male leads is not the romantic kind.

I also don't like SoL anime, I could barely get through san gatsu no lion which barely held my attention due to shogi. Still I want to give this a try. It's only 12 episodes anyway.

okay so I started watching it because I had nothing else and I kept seeing spoilers on IG (mainly manga panels) so I was like "ya know what? let's have a look, it looks cute"

and, well... it is, don't get me wrong... but why on earth is it so awkwardly animated?

The first ep felt so disjointed I was so confused (I'm glad now it is more linear in that regard, but the feeling of it being so disjointed was actually confusing me as I was listening without subs as I usually do and at times I had to rewind because I kept getting lost)

like it almost feels fan made, stop motion. Like I imagine it didn't have much sponsoring or budget, but I feel like I have seen better animated BLs before

i wanna enjoy the series, as it is cute, but I keep cringing at some of the parts thinking "ah.... why is it so dramatic?"

the timing for the change in bg music also throws me a bit off (I just finished ep 4 and I remember thinking that when sasaki got jealous in the window scene)

I'm hoping to get used to it because per se the story seem nice and I enjoyed the spoilers I saw, but at this rate I might just ditch the anime adaptation altogether and just focus on the manga
