After watching the anime, and reading some of the other posts: 2 things still bother me.
1. Why did Filimøs/Okta lie about Hiiro Wakaba being dead.

2. They said Julisus died at Fort ?(forgot name) when Kumoko escaped from the Labyrinth & accidently destroyed it. But it was reported a woman in white, Kumoko (Archne form which is human) is still in her spider form?

1) She didn't lie.

2) You're confusing two separate events.

I hope you are aware that this story narrates 2 separate timelines.

The first timeline is based from Kumoku's POV, her adventure and how she escaped the labyrinth. Then she died, when she fought the demon lord and was reborn (her body was destroyed, but her soul or conscious was transfered to a new body). That might have made Oka sensei to think or her skill to declare that wakaba actually died.

The second timeline is like around 10-15 years after wakaba was reborn as a spider.
She was a part of demon army and she was fighting in the elf village war as a commander for 10th division(i dont remember properly) And Julius was a hero at that point, very much alive after his first encounter with the demon king and reincarnated wakaba. During the war, she killed him.

1) Her skill I think only lists the students' original bodies. Kumo has an ability where her soul will transfer over to one of her children, so when her original body got killed Okta's spell backfired.

2) idk what you're asking unless you're getting confused by the 2 timelines. Wish they had done that differently.

Oka's skill is based on the student's souls and has nothing to do with their bodies, original or otherwise. If her skill says someone is dead, then that person's soul is gone.

Thanks everyone. I was thinking Julisus died after Kumoko escaped, but with the timeline bouncing I got that part wrong.

To elaborate a little more since the anime did some really questionable changes from the novel that shifted people's perception on certain characters/events.

Regarding Oka, she was set up as a character with questionable morals that draws the line at lying to her students. She's willing to do nearly anything to keep them safe except lie. Whenever she was asked about something that she wanted to keep hidden, rather than lie to them she would instead just straight up tell them that she couldn't answer. Even Katia, who's trust in Oka is slipping due to all the secrecy and other possible crimes, believes what she says if Oka gives an actual answer.

The other thing is the anime's fixation on trying to force people into believing that Kumoko is Wakaba. While this isn't technically wrong, there's supposed to be more ambiguity around that discovery. This has caused a lot of people to misinterpret what Oka said as a lie instead of wondering if there might be something else going on behind the scenes. The novels are ostensibly written as a mystery series where one of the goals is to identify which student is Kumoko. Every volume includes a class roster that is written from Shun's point of view that updates with his notes on who people are now in this world, who's dead, etc.. As the series goes on Shun (and us through him) learns more about the fate of each student. When Oka reveals the names of the four dead students (Kouta Hayashi, Hiiro Wakaba, Naofumi Kogure, Issei Sakurazaki) it was supposed to be treated as a simple fact instead of continuing to obnoxiously cut to Kumoko whenever anyone mentions the name Hiiro Wakaba. This happens nearly every time that name comes up in the anime. It sucked out all of the mystery and the "big reveal" of when Shun finally meets Sophia's mysterious "master" during the war with the elves and he calls her Wakaba. The audience (just like Shun) is supposed to be left wondering what happened since by this point the possible options had been narrowed down considerably.

Of the 25 students (as of the end of the anime):
4 are dead
11 are in the elf village
2 are adventurers
2 are being kept secret by Oka
1 has joined the Administrators (Sophia)
5 were at the academy
Additionally, Kumoko also knows that one of the students is actually Administrator D in disguise. (D blatantly states this during the phone call with Kumoko)

Clearly, Kumoko should have been one of the two being kept secret and not someone that was believed dead. Are the other three even dead? Did Kumoko steal Wakaba's identity? Is someone impersonating Kumoko? Who knows! It makes the reader reevaluate everything they've learned up to that point and look to see if there were any clues they might have missed.

I have a write up somewhere that I used to document all the stupid changes that the anime decided to do that altered character's personalities, events, etc.. My favorite was the random spoiler that the anime just nonchalantly drops that shouldn't have even been mentioned until seasons three or four if the anime even gets greenlit to go that far. Changes are expected when making an adaptation, but most of these were just pointless. For example, Hugo's a joke in the anime. They turned a powerful, intelligent, conniving, mass murdering, tyrant into a whiny incompetant loser.

1) It is revealed in the light novel later on as to why. If you only watched the anime or read the manga, you can't even know why. Also Wakaba WAS on the student roaster, she lied about that. spoilers from light novel ahead
