Something I don't understand, did not Lena saw the squadron files she would be in charge of ? And she knows their names so how come she did not noticed it was them ? Moreover this time when Shin said it was not the first time, she should have recognized his voice right away...

The names were blacked on the files they showed her. Only some names were shown but not the first five, being them

Ah ok thanks. Weird thing to do.

This is sorely episodic!!! I really love this series and I have to announce it was my best anime of 2021 frankly. I felt really grateful for 86, Shin, Lena and all people. Hiroyuki Sawano is such a genius as well. For this first season, give them an applaud and recommend to watch it all over again with auspicious feeling. 9/10 actually 9.5/10 🥰

There's enough material for more seasons. Hope this will continue.

Going to ruin the picture. It kinda looks like Shin is flipping off Lena there. Lol

Btw it was an amazing final episode. Easily another 10/10, and what I love about the series that it just blew the LN out of the water. Part 2 in anime was way more enjoyable than the LN 2-3 ever was. Rare to see an anime doing a way better job than the source material that's for sure.

“Im Home”

Glad to see them all living quite normals lives now, Shin especially looks like father.

Wow, what a touching reunion, The Spearhead Squadron and Handler 1 finally met in person for the first time. What a beautiful scene. God, it really was amazing.

Well directed but my attachment to the series was lost for a while so emotionally reflecting on it felt really hollow to me. Pretty much like the season as a whole. This was underwhelming from an enjoyment perspective for sure with some really annoying moments/characters at times, despite the quality direction promise shown here.

Ladies and gentleman this is a great example on how a good anime adaptation should be made!
No rushing and skipping any story parts!
Adding a lot of relevant anime original scenes!
Fanservice not in the form of sexy/lewd scenes, but with a properly animated and directed scenes that even better than the LN!
10/10 this episode is the best possible ending we can get to end 86 season 1 boys!!!

SEASON 2 WHEN ???

Wow Ernst spared no expense for the presents though. It was cute seeing Shin and Frederica cook together. Its been a while but its nice to see Shin finally get the chance to pay his respects to Eugene. In the end while Marcel was a jerk at least he owned up to it. While a little thing the photo was also a nice gesture for Nina as well one that im sure you will treasure and use to motivate herself in her life. More importantly Shinn deciding to free himself from his burdens and fight for a better future is a huge step for him. The makeshift graveyard that Lena visited really showed the cost of holding back the legions assault in both 86 and Alba lives. Can't say i feel sorry that the Alba ended up becoming second class cits after the Federacy liberated the 86 though. Though the federacy might be a foreign place for her at least Lena won't be alone. The vid recording at the end was a nice way to end the series with in showing just how much their view on Lena had changed while also featuring some amusing moments with the federacy cast as well. The most emotional moment of course was Lena meeting the team in the real and damm that was fun. Overall an most excellent ep to end the season with that combined excellent worldbuilding and emotional moments while setting the foundation for any potential sequel. Thank you A1 despite some mishaps you really delivered in the end.

Such a great episode. The music, direction and the visuals everything is top tier.

The way Shin and Lena POV is paralleled is quite fitting. And finally we got to see the long awaited reunion of Shin and Lena. Now they will be together and fight whatever they may face in life.

A full 10/10 series.I hope to see more seasons in future.

Also imo Avid and Kyoukaisen shouldn't have been used in this episode. But I love both so I don't really care.

Also chad grandpa squad

It's been broken record but I FREAKING LOVE 86 SO GODDAMN MUCH. It's been God knows how long since I've been invested in a series like this. I love everything about it. The characters, the story, the way the adaptation was handled and it's portrayal, the voice acting - I LOVE it all. This has been one of the greatest LN adaptations ever. This is how an adaptation should be. Not only giving the source it's justice but adding more to it to make it even better. The usage of colors, the imagery representation, the subtleties and the way they showed Shin and Lena's parallel in this episode where 1st half was from Shin's perspective and the 2nd being from Lena, it's perfect. Ishii is a genius and I'm so glad that it was him and his team was in charge of the series. And you can tell how passionate about the series they were just from watching the episodes. Phenomenal directing and shot compositions throughout the entire series and lots and lots of memorable scenes. Ishii and the entire team has my utmost gratitude for bringing 86 to life. This has been a masterpiece of a series. Everything was perfect.

I loved this episode so so so soooo much.

LOOK AT THEM. LOOK AT HOW PRECIOUS THEY ARE. THEY FINALLY PROPERLY MET.

ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED SCENE AND IT WAS MORE THAN DELIVERED. THIS IS PERFECT I'M SO HAPPY I'M FUKING CRYING. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH.

As Lena would say "wasuremasen". Yes, I too won't forget. I won't forget this experience that gave me so much and I can't wait to experience it all over again with hopefully future seasons. So 86, from the bottom of my heart, Thank You. Until next time.

I cried for those like majority of those twenty plus minutes. A perfect finale if there ever was one. Making this extra wait have it be all the more special as we come close to the one year anniversary of the first episode airing. I think that in a way helps build the emotion as we see this group of characters come to an end, for this part of their journey. Its been a long time coming for them and with this extra delay its been a long time coming for the viewers too. Suffice to say I loved this final episode it was perfect in every way. I cried instantly just seeing the group of 86 living normal lives in the Federacy again. Shin going to lay his brother to rest made me tear up again, it's hard to let go of deep rooted burdens such as that. Shin not forgetting those he had to leave behind but he's not gonna carry them around anymore either. Its definitely a big character moment compared to episode one. Lena telling what happened to the Republic, they got saved by the Federacy but the older citizens are still ungrateful while the younger ones are just getting by. Lena accepting a post with a unit of the Federacy soldiers to advance on a stalemate held north of the Republic. Not knowing it would be her old unit made the reunion very special. I bawled an insane amount of tears as Lena did realizing it was her old Handler One unit who'd made it this far. She never forgot about them and the sacrifice they made. So seeing them make it beyond that is an incredible feeling for her. I love that message holding true till the end, one of never forgetting the sacrifices of the past. Never forgetting the hellscape of war and the pain it brings. Its important messaging to listen to especially now. This anime has been marvelous to see put in such high quality and regard. I'm happy to have seen it. The characters resonate in so many ways. The themes are strong. Plus it's always looked well made. Truly one of the modern greats.

well if there was anything mildly interesting about this episode, it would be the reunion. however, there ain't much to squeal about if I wasn't invested in the characters.

so... what was it about this season and the series in general which was supposed to be deep, breathtaking, or whatever ppl may want to describe this as? definitely is more like a dummied-down version of your average war story. could go further and say that 86 holds some remnants to a usual battle shounen, especially considering the immense amount of time they spent with all the mecha fights. and, just like first half (and thanks to it), i didn't care much for whatever these guys were going thru.

Production-wise, good animation. meh music though, despite that well-known composer or whoever, that worked on this. Just ain't a fan. Lastly, would've been nice if this wasn't delayed 3 months, but it is what it is.

i think the author should write a romance novel instead

The names of the squad were hidden in the files. You can clearly see ghe black lines in the files were their names would be, so Lena never knew these guys were still alive, that's why she was shocked, when she heard Shin's name.

I like how this episode reflects pretty much how I felt about this part as a whole.

It starts kinda slow with the heroes coming back and having some time to themselves. Then the military aspect comes in and they want to get back into it again. Memories come flooding in, the loss of comrades, all reflected with some moments of good animation and shivering music.

You feel like it will end there up until Lena's perspective comes along and shows the missing half of the picture. Reminiscent of her time with the lost 86 you hope they'll meet again amidst the unresolved conflict. Then, a sudden development and the hope rises but it appears to end again but not quite.

Indeed, when that very last scene of the meeting came along and she finally recognized them it felt the same as the long awaited episode 10 but this time coming into fruition. Tears were starting to form around my eyes and that very last shot with the title drop in the shadows made it all worth it...

...almost. The huge detriment this part has isn't even its fault rather the production issues which made it difficult to maintain the hype alone. I can easily recommend this now that it is all up but going through 2 recaps and a figurine special really left a sour after taste. Thankfully new viewers won't suffer the same fate.

Hopefully we get a continuation in the future. See you then.

They really went all out just to make this reunion episode omg what a masterpiece. it's so beautifully executed. easy 10/10. I didn't expect this war anime would have such a beautiful ending.

The thing I miss is probably the plot 'cause the delay makes me forget most of the political side of this series. I really forgot the relation between each country or whatever. my brain just can't handle it. but I'll let it slip. or maybe gonna rewatch if necessary.

Thankyou 86!

Lena must have had a real hard emotional roller coaster ride. First she thinks and accepts that shin and co had died from their special recon mission, then she gets a glimmer of hope some of them survived when annette talks about the giad replicated para raid device needing a living 86, then she gets her hopes completely crushed when she sees the grave/memorial with the juggernaught units, fido (shell), the name plaque, and the box of name tags, and then finally she meets face to face with shin and co as her new squadron. Was really expecting her to hug shin when they showed her portrait drawings fly into the air.

She finally caught up, the meeting was outstanding. We've finally seen him smiling from the bottom of his heart. Lena tearing up with the beautiful OST in the background and don't forget the close to perfect visuals. All I can say is that I've enjoyed this season a LOT. The fight scenes were beautiful and sound effects were legit great. It was worth the wait and it deserves a 9/10.

The final 3 episodes were a nice change of pace. I kind of hate the anime obsession of trying to be profound when it is clearly beyond its own limitations, but the emotional sensations from watching the characters acting out of anything but being themselves are always on point, at least in the adaptation.
Kind of funny how an anime about war and social injustice can be good when it is not talking about that, and detour into an eye-roll when it is approaching the topic

I've watched over 300 titles and can count on one hand the ones I've watched that include mecha elements and of them, only 86 has scored higher than a 7 for me. They really took their time with this one. I'm glad to see that there might be talks of a season 2! Though I may just rush right to the LN because I'm greedy.

AAAH, the emotions in Shinei's eyes was so top tier. And Theo made his way to top of my best boy list under Fido for using his creative powers for justice: making ShinxLena fanart lol
