Vanitas no Carte is good but the romance is so annoying I wanted to drop it, therefore I didn't buy the manga. Anyway, someone recommended me this story and said it's good. I wanted to try it but I'm hesitant. I know it is tag as shounen like vnc, but I want to make sure. So can someone tell me if this, Pandora Hearts doesn't have romance or no forced and random romance in it. Because if there's none, I'll definitely read it and buy the manga. But if it's like vnc, I'll pass.

Vanitas no Carte romance annoys me too. Pandora Hearts has also romance, a little random pairings too tbh, but not annoying and actually cute. Better than vnc.

The author stated in the last the guidebook that Oz’s and Alice’s relationship was platonic so they don’t really count. (Link to the interview if you would like to see it: https://lilyginnyblack.tumblr.com/post/123113949145/i-am-screaming-an-excerpt-from). Otherwise, the only canon pairing is Ada and Vincent but they’re more of a side couple.

Oh, and Echo has a crush on Oz but that’s about it.

Pandora Hearts is worth checking out, such a well written story and the peaks are insanely high.

Same here. I'm not fond of the romance in Vanitas no Carte either, so I dropped the manga and decided to just stick to watching the anime first. Pandora Hearts is definitely better and that's pretty much the general consensus. There's no annoying romance in Pandora Hearts. Well, tbh there're a few pairings that are toxic and uncomfortable, but it's not among any of the main characters and the romance doesn't feel nearly as forced so it shouldn't be a problem.

Comparing a finished manga with an incomplete one and both being the works of the same author...
Seriously?
This isnt a fair comparison

@234Mannan People literally calls an unfinished story the GREATEST manga of all time like Berserk fans shit on other manga with an ending then why can't we compare them though

@234Mannan not a big deal, u can but berserk has considerable amount of chapters, it's a very very long unfinished story,, similarly HxH, Nana etc.....

Just like how Boruto's actually character development story has just begun, there were a lot of flaws in the og Boruto but now the 2 Vortex seems to get better a lot.

Same way, the story of VNC seems to stretch a bit longer than Pandora Hearts, so let's wait and see, the art has already improved tremendously, let's see what the future has got in store for us.
It might get even better who knows, so it's a bit little early to compare.

@Feitan_exe Thats their problem in all honesty... Berserk to be perfecty honest is the epitome of edgyniness that attracts the delusional Misogynists(I literally had to drop after 4 vols)... But I let it slide mostly.
But my main point generally was that, Both are by same authors and are not exactly complete. Them being from different authors could have been something but not the case and in addition its not exactly even half way through. Vanitas is better in some aspects so far(Art, World building and the setup arcs) so there is a fair chance of it being better but the plot of PH is def very hard to surpass imo.

Depends. Pandora's story telling was a mess. It was so hard to understand, even incomprehensible at times. It's a killer of reading enjoyment. In this regard Vanitas is better by landslide. Plot, worldbuilding? While Vanitas is fascinating in these, it cannot hold a candle to Pandora. Pandora has the most unique theme and execution I've ever seen. But at the end of the day I'm someone who cares about the reading enjoyment the most. So I'd say Vanitas.

@meyve Honestly I think Pandora Hearts's storytelling was the furthest thing from a "mess". Everything that happens made so much sense and was shown why it made so much sense and felt so right every single time. Nothing happens in the story for no reason. Every line and panel was put there intentionally. And I'm not saying this because I believe that it's this way, no when you pay attention it is painfully obvious why the things that happen, happen in that specific way. It's just that people aren't used to keeping track of details like this because they haven't read anything like it. Getting used to bad storytelling is the main reason Pandora Hearts is being described as "confusing" by most. Most realize how much attention it requires being much higher than what they're used to too late. And that's not their fault. But it's definitely not Pandora Hearts's fault either. You can't call tennis a bad sport because you don't have arms. But it's not your fault that you don't have arms you weren't the one who caused the car crash. That was a weird analogy. Whatever sorry for this tangent I swear I'm not glazing Pandora I genuinely believe most of the things I said.

Pandora Hearts is absolutely amazing, I have not seen the same level of masterful writing YET from Vanitas no Carte, mainly because it focuses on individual characters more than a general story that these characters are a part of. This is obviously not a bad thing since it feels like this is gonna go on for much much longer than Pandora Hearts did, it's more shoneny in the best way possible. The main thing that I absolutely loved about Pandora Hearts was the lack of information. You knew absolutely nothing when everyone in the story had a much better grasp on things than you did. The same thing is present in Vanitas no Carte however the biggest difference is how it makes you feel about the lack of information. In Pandora Hearts you were literally dropped in the middle of a completely and tightly connected story and things were very obviously happening because of reasons you didn't know and things were very obviously leading you to future events that were tied to the past you were clueless about and again, didn't really know. That sense of mystery was so great that it made every little bit of dialogue and panel feel important because no detail was useless they all had value as information in uncovering what the hell happened and what the hell will happen. In Vanitas no Carte it's different. The lack of info is there but it doesn't give the same feeling, I don't feel like things are happening at any given moment important enough to warrant me needing to know about it right away. I mean they are happening sure, but in way smaller portions compared to Pandora. It's not focusing on how you know nothing and not using it to it's advantage like Pandora did so you don't feel the need to learn what happened and learn what will happen and you just let the ride take you wherever. This obviously helps with fleshing out and developing the characters which Jun Mochizuki is once again proving she's an absolute god at doing so. But the loss of sense of urgency in things is making me not as excited to read the next chapter and making me care less which is hindering how highly I regard it as a piece of fiction. But the way Jun is one by one fleshing out and focusing on each character is fascinating to see unfold. Still has great potential and I wanna see what Jun will do with this very long set up.
