Only anime I dropped was Cowboy Bebop due to boredom but I've watched this a dozen times and rated it a 10/10 along with other shows such as Eromanga Sensei and Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out.. so I'm the wrong person to ask, lol

If you actually want to watch it, then do it.

The whole point early on is you want to punch the MC for the stupid shit he says/does.

That's the premise of character development - a character starts out bad, then develops.

He literally embodies everything that the current internet culture doesn't want a guy to be. Nowadays, relationships are supposed to be optimized and people are supposed ro be direct and oozing with confidence. Any guy who doesn't fit the cool and 'chad' character and has moments of immaturity is hated upon. This is the exact reason accelerator(he is well written tho) and bakugo are loved while Subaru( S1), Shirou and Kazuya are hated. Now add to this the fact that Kanokari isn't an action series so Kazuya doesn't have any 'badass' moments and the reason is clear as day. For most consumers of anime and manga these days, coolness and edginess is a much more important factor than actual depth of character.

When you create a charcter that goes completely against the average reader's ideals and expectations, they don't like it. At the end of the day, no one likes a stereotypical loser even in fiction. I personally think that Reiji has done a wonderful job portraying the 'loser' archetype and the more people hate on Kazuya the better my point is proved.
