I was checking what was the deal with the 2 manga and found this line in the wiki article: It was created based on the Japanese novels "Nanso Satomi Hakkenden".

For those who don't know, Hakkeden is an epic from the 1800's about a cursed group of warriors, who are meant to be reborn just to suffer and sacrifice themselves again. It's pretty hardcore with accidental murdering of love ones, burning alive and that kind of stuff. The only element in common is collecting parts of a whole, but not what that whole is or how they collect them or why. So it'ss also the description of Those Who Hunt Elves, some Lupin III arcs and any regular puzzle you might do at home.
