I must say, I wasn't expecting much this episode but they were able to focus it on developing the story enough to possibly cap this season off.

Still got some decent action from this penultimate episode. I don't like the adults in this show though...

Yamato is more determined than ever to win the battle against Sidr and the Dractors, knowing that he can follow Arshem's ideals of making the world livable between humans and aliens. All the kids from school have also come together to fight this battle, which speaks volumes about not letting even a single character be wasted, even if for walking plot devices at the very start.

The penultimate battle of the season before Season 2 in Fall 2022, and all the Rouges are out in full force against the Dractors. For Yamato, balancing between the fight and lives lost is a delicate balance, and Minami...sacrificed herself against a traitor who chooses to betray his own race for exchange of his own life, with the rest knowing her true alien self thereafter. Grieffas locking the Musashi in its own EM field produces some of the most action-packed production values so far in this show lost to the appeal of fansubs.

Both Minami and Arshem are fighting for the welfare of both mankind and the aliens, but in the process, got their lives entangled in the war between Earth and Sidr, and it's a sad sight to see.

Wondering how this'll all encapsulate for the finale before getting ready for Season 2 next year.

Season 2 isn't surprising. It was mentioned early on. I appreciate Yamato not being another bland "blinded by naive morality" type, and yet he develops from being genocidal to understanding Arshem's intentions and adjusting his goals. It's a shame about Minami, and sad to see a human sell out for a longer life in exchange for betraying his own race.

This apocalyptic feel is ominous, and I wonder how they will wrap up the first season. It's been a fun ride, but a shame that fan subs has reduced this to something in a dark corner for the season despite being so good.

I can't lie, mecha protags that become pacifists are the worst thing mecha anime ever put on a pedestal It almost never makes sense and actively makes me hate a lot of MCs. To Yamato's credit though, he respected the alien girls wishes. The same one who forced a gun to her head to prove how committed she was. Plus she said the fewest casualties possible, not "don't kill anyone."

So I guess I will put Yamato in the bin below Renton as MC's who don't like killing but are still likeable characters.

The captain died in a very muted manner. I thought the show would make a big deal over her reveal and death. But this was handled better than I would have hoped. Sasuga Megaton Musashi.

I guess Ixia is going to end up like JIOR from Valvrave the liberator, now that the secret of Earth's fate is out in the open. Hopefully this group of people do better than JIOR did at running a country.

Shit really hit the fan, huh? Minami's identity got revealed and she presumably died, this battle against the Dractors seems unwinnable numbers-wise and two mechs have entered the shelter.

How will this all conclude in the next episode, I wonder. My guess is that most probably Arshem will get kidnapped or something.
