Shita no kioku - "Memories of the Tongue"

Fansubbing continues, filling in the blanks left by the official streaming release. Here, we get a closer look at Kurita's family, something we should have had more of. This episode also explores the nightmare that is factory farming.

Considering it is a food anime with many episodes in it, it is definitely gonna discuss about many topics within the area and it is a vast area for gathering content for the series too so ofc there would be some kinda feature on factory farming after all.
It's a heavy topic that many to this day turn a side-eye to and even the activists would start screaming about as well but it is a topic that does bring a heavy lot to the plate to discuss upon and factors in which people would take to decide what produce to purchase.

Money is an important factor into this as in many cases, those who want to save more and/or are too poor for the better option (me included in the latter) would end up purchasing the meat that is probably from a source that is probably more inhumane.
But a fair amount of time, these kinda practices do get challenged upon and you'd end up seeing factories and whatnot seen on the news, I remember there was some clip of a slaughterhouse and it was very brutal which made its way onto social media and with enough people the place did shut down and maybe more farms are losing the more inhumane approach for produce as when people start digging, they really find shit, reminding me of the Tesco's meat that has horse in controversy.

But with the cheaper option it does definitely downgrade the quality compared from that against something that is more free range, take Wagyu for example.
A luxury that is expensive but definitely raved upon in quality for its AAA grade presence, extremely well cared for to the point it's probably living a better life than most people.
Meanwhile on the other side of the spectrum there are some things which you can bat an eye to in quality as it tastes fine, take Jamie Oliver's chicken nugget experiment with the kids, like in one of the earlier episodes in this series, kids are honest.
Money aside, it is hard as well due to the rapid supply and demand of fresh produce too, definitely many weights added to the scale for all this.

I wonder tho, when this episode aired, did it have much of an impact within the food market and its practices to get food on the table?
