I have the feeling that THIS IS THE BADMINTON ANIME we badminton weebs have long been waiting for....!

Badminton is such an underrated sports in anime...the only anime on badminton was Hanebado (correct me if im wrong) and it was...well...kidda sucks. My standard is not high. I just need a badminton anime with some decent plot and no deliberate fan service (cough cough Hanebado I do not want to see wiggling boobs when a girl hits a shuttle with her racket!).

If anyone is aware, Japan's badminton has been one of the strongest in the world in recent years. The Mens Single King Momota Kento, the Men/Mix double genius Watanabe among some other TOP players!! So I am genuinely surprised that there's this lack of recognition of badminton in anime.

As a badminton lover, I really appreciate this adaptation. There is still a few of "proper" sports anime. I'm not expecting too much but I hope they adopt real law and technique of badminton, like Haikyuu!! for the volleyball (no superpowers but inspiring and still interesting)

as a badminton fan too, there was a badminton anime a while ago called hanebado. It was okay, but the manga was way better. I would recommend the manga if you ever want a badminton manga to read.

Love badminton and in fact it's the only sport I feel that way about. I've seen some professional games, but by and large don't follow it professionally.

The reason why I love it is because coming up through school, of course if you have a decent school with a decent physical education program and gymnasium as well as requisite funding for equipment and such, you get a chance to pretty much play and try out every sport and game there is over the years (at least ones known about to some extent in your country and by the teachers). I was always very unathletic and used to dread gym class and generally avoid physical activity.

Out of all the sports, gymnastics, martial arts, etc., the only one that I ever actually both genuinely enjoyed and loved playing as well as was actually proficient at was badminton. Somehow despite being generally lazy and unmotivated, overweight, etc. and disinterested in seeking achievement of physical feats of prowess, myself and a female friend managed to come in #2 out of 40 teams in the intramural competition in high school for badminton organized and divided between our different classes, beating all the American football, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, etc. jocks and enthusiasts. We were only ultimately beaten by a team with a foreign exchange student there for the year from Sri Lanka who was great and came off like a pro (apparently was very involved in the game back home and I know there's a big culture around it in South Asia).

Ever since then badminton was the only sport I ever actually cared about. Generally speaking, I prefer all the "net" sports anyway - tennis, royal tennis, volleyball, pickleball, and even ping pong. But badminton was the only one I could actually perform well at and strangely felt possessed on that court.

That's why I loved seeing a fanatic Ayano Hanesaki in her insane headspace and despite what anyone says about Hanebado! (yeah, the melodrama was "dumb" basically, but still fun), it did feel so alive and filled with this overflowing passion.

I must confess the only reason I'm interested in this one is because I really enjoyed Hanebado lol (didn't even know badminton existed)
Anyways it's nice to see more anime about such sport coming out, having something you love being (well) portrayed in media is always a great feeling.

Here, I play badminton, still amateurish tho. I saw the poster of this anime on Watanabe-san and Higashino-san’s channel a while ago. Just to say, I hate Hanebado the anime the most but love Hanebado the manga the most lol (please don’t ask why, try reading all 16 volumes. You might like it or not, I myself got into badminton training with a coach because of it :) Badminton is kinda popular with people around here but most people play it for fun, outdoor (nightmare :). I’m glad they find it fun, just disappointed that they have no idea what professional matches look like since they don’t watch them. Or worse, call it easy compared to tennis. It’s like comparing bass guitar and guitar, nonsense.

Played it for 20+ years myself. I've always thought badminton is quite a hard sport to put into anime because of how fast it can be. At a pro level the speed is so fast and the movements are so streamlined I've figured it won't work very well into anime. I'll always give them a watch to see how they turn out though.

I've been playing it for a couple of years. I'm not a pro but I daresay I am not a beginner either. I just play it as a hobby and not as a competition player.

Yeahhhh love badminton. My knee is kinda fucked up from an old hockey injury, so I'm doubting how mobile I can be on a court anymore. I played singles all through high school. I guess since I'm not playing right now I'm all in on this series. I really enjoyed Hanebado as well, despite all the negative sentiment towards it.

Quite recent anime series was Ryman's club where guys played badminton as well. I haven't finished it yet.
And that has been quite decent so far. But half of the series is also about being a corporate worker.

As for real life i have not really followed awesome players or anything, although i have seen some amazing matches on youtube though.
Badminton is a sports game i have always wished to play but now i'm too old for it to have any value, the only chance i got to play it a bit was during university with my friend. After that, it's too expensive and i'm too low level to even try it anywhere. And it's expensiveee.
But i still like everything about it (expensiveness and all those stuff aside) and knowing there are more sports anime about it is really awesome. Big sports anime fan here.

If you want to read manga featuring badminton there are some more (Blue Box and Smash are the first that come to mind) but they have not been made into anime. But yeah recent Ryman's club anime is actually also something to check out.

I played badminton often and it is a great game, but play and enjoy tennis a lot more. Badminton would also mess with my tennis technique and timing somewhat if I played too frequently.

Huge badminton fan here. I would just say don't put your expectations at a Haikyuu level cause right away this doesn't look like it from an animation point of view. It looks like the OST has some substance to it so I'll be looking forward to that, but as for the badminton animation itself I have my expectations very low.
As OP mentioned, Hanebado wasn't very good, but it did have very nice footwork animation. I feel like it was a drama show that had badminton in it rather than the opposite.
To a certain extent, the same goes for Ryman's Club, where the work life lakes quite a large part of the show. It's a cool concept, but it misses for a lot of us who are expecting our own badminton Haikyuu. The matches animation is also pretty weak so that doesn't help.
It's looking like Love All, Play is a badminton story centered around badminton, so in that regards it already has a huge advantage over the first two. The only thing I'm worried about is the animation because the 90's-esque aesthetic doesn't lend itself to flashy fluid animation like Haikyuu's.

For those of you who are looking for more badminton anime/manga, I would suggest looking up Missile Bird by Shizusa Io & Ryusen Kumata.
