Yep, I've also seen it in September. I agree, the music was great, but the ending confused me a little.

Saw it today at Glasgow film festival

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed, but fwiw I’m not too familiar with the creator’s previous works.
It has a novel premise and I really liked the ending but otherwise felt it’s pacing frequently lagged and I found it difficult to keep up with some of the specifics of the world building

I have two days ago in Angoulême.

PS: And the mods should stop changing our 'completed' to 'plan to watch'... It's tiring...

Likewise to Punkuin, saw it last night in London. Having gone to see it on the back of watching SARU's Heike Story this wound up a big surprise but still enjoyable for sure.

I've seen it at Nippon Connection Film Festival in Frankfurt am Main, Germany and I was somewhat blown away by how distinctly Japanese it is. Like even as a studied Japanologist I had difficulties reading the old Japanese scripture that is not standard Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji. Also a lot of the Heike references went over my head. It motivated me to go research the Heike Monogatari a bit more.

On the other hand, the most non-Japanese thing was the addition of rock music and ballade in feudal Japan. This was so surreal to me when it began but this is what makes Yuasas works so fantastical and avant-garde.

Amazing movie on an audiovisual level, but the plot and pacing lagged a bit behind for my taste, despite it being a short film at nearly 100 Minutes.

Also cannot stress this enough. If you are not japanese you should read (book) or watch (anime) heike monogatari before seeing this movie.

I was honestly just thinking about Heike Monogatari after I got home from the theater and was thought it would be good to watch it.

Do you think it'll flesh out Inu-Ou more (by watching Heike Monogatari) even though I'm going to watch it after seeing the movie?
Can I touch you? Please I love you. Let me touch you, I love you!

I'm sure you'll have many ohh I get it now moments while watching it. Inuou's songs are new stories not in heike monogatari but the backdrop/worldbuidling will make more sense. You can view it as a prequel. What the heike went through in life before they became spirits. Also it's a good anime in its own right worth recommending to people.
