way too many similarities, from the schizophrenia, to the ringing phone and the voices on his head telling him to kill targets. along with the crap sake world and being an enforcer for the government. jacket is also an ex soldier just like kano. they both act exactly the same as well

I mean, now that you mention it? I dunno though. Felt like Freesia was a bit more than what the surface suggested whereas Hotline Miami's vibe could be found in giallo, 80s horror and b movies etc.

Not to shit on Hotline Miami, but the similarities seem superficial.

After finishing the entire manga I can see the similarities. In fact I did play the Hotline Miami OST while reading this

Well American writers wether it be for video games, movies or TV are notorious for ripping off foreign art works especially from asia simply because in America very few actually watch or read anything that is not in English so it's very likely that Hotline Miami was at least in parts based on this manga.

played hotline miami for the first time about a month before i started reading this and i definitely thought "yeah this is basically hotline miami if it was government agents instead of rogue vigilantes"

but realistically, not really at all. i think it's because they're both influenced by the same things, hyper-masculine and psychologically driven films like taxi driver and fight club

i don't think so but the similarities are there, and there are a few that actually seem ripped off like the schizophrenia part.
more or less, i think they are different works with different insipirations, though is a super similiar story hm goes to a way and freesia goes the other

No, surely didnt. However, in the short story "Parlor31" from the same author, Jiro Matsumoto, the school girls raiding a karaoke type of place wear a bunch of animal masks while doing so, with guns and shooting to kill, including masks such as of an owl, horse, tiger and some others. It seems like it was written shortly before hotline miami, idk if the devs of the game got inspired but even though they are similar i doubt that they did read such an obscure short story from an already obscure mangaka.
