I love this movie overall, but this one point keeps sticking out to me. Why was Homura constantly in search of an answer to what was happening and where she was, if stealing Madoka's human form back was her plan all along?

1) *Was* it her plan all along?
2) If yes, from what point on? Even before she well into her soul egg-coma? Did she expect/hope for the incubators to keep it under stasis, and Madoka to come?
3) If no, when did she decide to do it? Right after the incubator seal is broken?
4) And again, if it *was* her plan all along, why does she act like she doesn't know what's going on in the first half of the movie? Did she simply...forget?

My immediate explanation is that she truly had no awareness of her situation. But formulated her course of action around the time she is listening to Kyubey explain its plans, when she realized it *could* be done. (If this was what the movie tried to get across, I feel it remained kinda un-obvious)

As Homura lay in that stone coffin looking thing, she saw Madoka, and on an impulse decided that she would try to grab Madoka and keep her by her side. Her thought processes at the time were either:
"If I grab Madoka's hands and never let go, it is possible that I can stop her from having to go back to Magical girl heaven, and she will finally be truly saved. The Law of Cycles was designed to save magical girls from their cruel fate, but I instead try to save the Madoka then something good may happen." (This is an irrational Homura)
OR
"I remember that Kyubey said that the isolation field prevented Madoka from being omnipresent or omniscient, so maybe if I grab onto her, she will not be able to predict it. If I do not let go after that, it is possible that I can forcefully drag Madoka back into this world." (This is a rational Homura)
OR
"I just want Madoka back. At this point I will do anything to save her, even if I have to do so forcefully." (This is a desperate Homura)

(Rational) (she now realises that her plan actually might work, which is why she smiles as Madokami descends towards homura)." (This is the most realistic Homura)
